There is a photo in the Gallery taken in 1983 of a White Tiger in the 'modern' cat enclosures(now the Asian Lion enclosure) at Bristol Zoo.

Does anyone have details of the last White tiger at Bristol- name, sex, birth or death date? Was it the tiger in this photo I wonder?

I believe the very last White tiger of pure Indian/Bristol descent may have been one that was sent on loan to Dudley, but I am not sure. (Several of Bristol's White tigers died from BSE/FSE after being fed infected meat).

Hi Pertinax,
I took the photo, but I don't know any more about the tiger in the picture, sorry.:(

I can remember there still being one at around that time, and I have a postcard of one in that cage too, but I'd be interested in more exact details on when they died out at bristol.

I'll have a look at the ARKS records for the white tigers and/or have a chat with their ex-keeper who can probably tell me details of all the white tigers important life events and let you know in the next few days. Kate

Thankyou. I would be very interested as I can remember the original Bristol White tigers and their cubs all very clearly, but not any details of which became the last one and when it was born/died etc.

The last white tiger at Bristol zoo was Akbar 2nd, a male who died in 1986. Im not sure how long he was there and he did spend a bit of time at Dudley zoo before coming back to Bristol.

Very interesting. Maybe one of you can provide his dates of birth & death(and parents; Roop x Sumati?) and when he was at Dudley too.

How are the De Brazza's monkeys getting along together now?
