i love the orangutan concept, with one island shared with gibbons and one not, but how will they stop the gibbons going in the orang house

Operant conditioning, keepers wouldnt reward gibbons for entering the orang holding. It will take some time at first, but the gibbons will catch on real quick as to where they get their food.

i presume they will use lar gibbons, it would be nice to see this mix with a different species of gibbon like siamangs etc

The plans do read Agile gibbons with the Orangutans and Lar Gibbons, I believe, on an island that tapirs have access to.

the lar gibbons have a seperate island, i think they will just share one island with agile gibbons

This plan shows a safari access, are they planning guide jeep tours??

I have just found another plan which has an arrow pointin to a safari jeep trail. Also, on the NWCP website it says that the tanzanian savannah will be a place "where visitors will be able to go on an off-road tour" and have a a "safari jeep ride" so it is obviously on their plans although may not happen in reality.

Orangutans used to occupy main land asia, but have since wipped out, so if the right signs are shown and there current plight highlight it may get more sympathy from visitors. So I think if that is all done bristol are on to a winner there.

As I understand it, the Sumatran sub-species (?) is much more difficult to come by.

Actually, they are not sub-species but distinct species. Borneans are pongo pygmaeus and sumatrans are pongo abelli...or is it the other way round

Its the right way round you are right. but sumatrans are pongo abelii

I took it that Zooplantman was meaning Sumatran tapirs were harder to come by, not the orangutans.....
