And our contender from across the Irish Sea now raises its head, in a match for which (quite honestly) I haven't the faintest inkling of the potential direction it may go: the two Aspinall collections go head-to-head with Dublin and Fota in the category of SOUTH/CENTRAL AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN!

We will definitely need posts from people discussing the plus and minus points for this one, as I imagine I am not the only one who is currently at a loss for which way to vote!

Just ran through the figures to see how the two organisations fall out; it appears that the Aspinall Foundation has marginally more mammals but is completely blown out of the water where birds and herps are concerned, but neither organisation is particularly strong in this regard:

Aspinall

Mammal: 16
Bird: 1
Herp: 0

Dublin/Fota

Mammal: 11
Bird : 7
Herp: 8

So, at present I think my vote will have to be a very soft 2-1 to Dublin and Fota on the grounds they represent the category a shade more comprehensively.... but I definitely think we need arguments to be made on both sides here!

Howletts has lowland tapir, capybara and giant anteaters, whilst Port Lympne has vicuna, spectacled bears, agoutis and howler monkeys to add to the former two. And those are just the ones I remember....it's not really a great deal.

Capuchins at Port Lympne too and Howletts have pied and midas tamarins I believe.
