Straight out of one victory, Dublin/Fota heads into another match - this time with a collection which has yet to pick up a win thus far..... but how will the category of MISCELLANEOUS MAMMALS treat either collection?

You decide :) as a reminder, this category covers anything which is NOT a primate, carnivore or hoofstock species.

Twycross list

Western Grey Kangaroo
Red-necked Wallaby
Gundi
Black-tailed Prairie Dog
Capybara?
Mara

That is all I can find. I don't think the two other zoos can be that poor to lose this one surely?Actually it is very close, Gundi at Twycross v both Irish zoos having sloths, everything else just cancels each other out. ZTL does not list Capybara as a current holding for Twycross though, have they gone?
This is more or less a draw, so on the basis two zoos should be better than one I may go 2-1 Twycross

Dublin should be ignored in this or most categories, but Fota really is a strong contender. The Kangaroos, Wallaby (100s) and Mara have almost full access to the whole park. There are large
wooded and scrubby areas without enclosures, where the animals tend to gather and it's a very feelgood viewing experience. The Maras can often be seen grazing in the giant Giraffe paddock.
The Capybara are housed along with Tapir and Rhea in a large newly build enclosure and the Sloth has full freedom in the Tropical house. I believe any zoo would struggle to beat Fota in this category if enclosure quality is factored in.

Both zoos' collections are to put it politely 'average,' and almost identical, even if one zoo' s 'enclosures' or lack of them are superior, to score it 3-0 seems excessive to me!

I have been to all 3 zoos mentioned and my vote is based on what I've seen. Fota wins on enclosures, viewing experience and numbers of specimens and draws on numbers of species.

That's fair enough, I just don't think either zoo's collection deserves 3 points, they would get nil against many others

Of course, it is no more or less excessive than the 3-0 in the other direction from @bintarong - I wonder if they can discuss their reasons for voting as they have done?

My reason for posting on this thread was to point out some of Fotas good points as its obviously not well known by forum members and there are few photos in the gallery. But as Twycross may have improved its housing since my last visit, its only fair to alter my vote.

Given the information you have posted, I will also change my vote to 2-1 Fota

Appears I have accidentally pressed 3 points. I meant to go 2 too Twycross and 1 to Dublin. Twycross zoo gives the kangaroos a large enough house with heating compared to alot of UK zoos that only provide basic sheds. I've never really visited Dublin zoo however have watched the old documentaries and can identify the enclosure design. Either way both zoos are around the same but with Twycross having a larger variety.
