Well with 2015 a few days away and the old news thread getting a bit long, I figured why not make a new one?

Now I don't have any big news but I visited today so have a couple of little bits.

First off, I'd just like to mention that it appears to me as though the Coquerel's Sifakas and Crowned Lemurs will be alternating on and off-exhibit. I just mention this because I've been asked about this in the past. Also from Madagascar!, there seems to be a new small snake species in the nocturnal room. It's currently unlabeled but I have a photo for identification later. Also, the leaf-tailed gecko enclosure was empty but inside was a small next box as well as a small water bottle and food bowl, leading me to believe that the mouse lemurs may soon go back on-exhibit in here! The birds are all back on-exhibit with the lemurs again as well.

The kiwi enclosure is currently under renovation as is the first Snow Leopard enclosure and there appears to be another new sea lion pup. I peaked over the fence at the Children's Zoo and currently the main area still looks more or less the same. The Monk Parakeets, prairie dogs, and night herons are all still in their enclosures. For some reason a pair of Red Pandas are on-exhibit in one of the small outdoor cages of the Mouse House. As for inside of the Mouse House, there are three Mohol Bushbabies on-exhibit though there's still no signage for them.

Finally, the Maxwell's Duikers were out again:D and in World of Birds you can now see Egyptian Plover and Racquet-Tailed Roller again. There are also now two Cuban Amazons. I'd assume they're both still the Grand Cayman ssp but if anyone else knows otherwise please feel free to correct me.

Photos will be up eventually. I forgot my cable to transfer my photos to my computer at home in CT so must wait a day or two until I'm back there to upload.

Something else I forgot to mention:
The corner of the cover on the caiman enclosure in World of Reptiles peeled off a bit, allowing me to see into the enclosure and I found it was completely done, filled with water, and has several turtles in it so not sure why it's still covered.

Also, the enclosure next to the baby alligator one in WOR seems like it'll be holding Egyptian Tortoises soon.

thank gooddness the sifakas are still there because i have fouf them to be more colorful, active, and frankly more crowd appealing so thats a good thing. i really wish they would tell which days are who. this is just like the two tiger sub-species:o

I don't think the two tigers alternate on-exhibit. I'm pretty sure it's almost always the Amurs except for when there are cubs. The Wild Asian Monorail tigers might alternate from what I've heard but I've never seen them.

well then i was on malayan day on the monarail but unfortunatly my camera started to malfunction and then work again just as we left the exhibit. and what really stinks is that he (or she) was in plain view, in my focus and was ROARING

Well that's cool but also stinks. Nice that you got to see the Malayan but shame your camera didn't work.

The alternating schedule I really want to know is the one for the Lowland Nyala and the Slender-Horned Gazelles!

Does anyone know why the Zoo is not going to be open tomorrow (Monday 17th)? It says on the website it will be closed but does not give a reason.

It's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in America so that's probably why it's closed. Odd that it is closing for that, though.

More like the Bronx Zoo put back out it's new website and the other parks now have an updated site. I do like the new Bronx Zoo site, except they put so little information about the animals. They should have Thylacinealive do there information on animals displayed. I mean really??? Only 3 species listed in both Jungle World and Congo??

i never was a fan in general of the sites. it does look like however, that they did add some species and i do like how they now show a picture for the animal without having to click on the name

I do like the new design of the website and it's much easier to use. And it finally has an easily accessible zoo map!! But I really don't like how their new "Animals" section doesn't actually have animal pages, just a few photos of a few random species. And then sometimes it's as vague as "zebra"! I also noticed that they had Pygmy Marmoset listed for CGF so I wonder if they're going back in there.. Also noticed it listed Malagasy Tree Boa for Madagascar! which is weird because I thought they had ground boa?? Alligator Snapping Turtle is also listed for World of Reptiles even though they don't display those anymore afaik.

I think the Alligator Snapping Turtle is being added to the Children's Zoo. I do like the graphics and the site is easier to use. However; I do wish they listed more animals and maybe a little information on what is next. No need to be so secretive. And also a baby animal section!
 
And is it me or some minor sections (flamingo and Pheasant area) missing from the website? And Wild Asia has no animals! It's a monorail through empty woods now! :eek:I assume that will be fixed by Spring

Well if it is it still doesn't belong in the World of Reptiles section:p I'm hoping the zoo goes on to make animal pages and add more species to the site as time goes on. For a major zoo, its website is really lacking imho.
