As for the Goliath beetles, yes they were on exhibit in Congo. Between Jungle World and Congo the Bronx Zoo has several different beetle species.

I'd rather see talapoin, pangolin, or some other small West African species in the enclosure, especially since it's empty 90% of the time. Hell, I'd even take the giant elephant-shrews since they're at least African.

Thanks for the info on the marmosets, Bigfoot and Thylo. I didn't remember them, but I visited the zoo several years ago (2005) so may have just missed them if they aren't on exhibit often.
 
I think the elephant shrews or even the galagos (keeps with the primate and Africa theme) could do well there. I don't think the exhibit is large enough for Talapoin- pangolin would be great since WCS is taking a strong stand for their conservation.

But it's at least sort of understandable why they're there; to compare the huge diversity in size of the primate family (from the smallest, the pygmy marmoset, to the biggest, the gorilla)

Indeed, though the galagos might not be showy due to their nocturnal nature. I believe talapoins aren't much larger than Pygmy Marmosets. I've never seen one dead or alive but I think that's what others I've met you've seen them have said.

Talapoins are about 1-1.5 feet long (not counting an even longer tail) and weigh around 2lbs; so more like a large tamarin or Goeldi's monkey. So the exhibit would still need to be closer to the Wolf's guenon exhibit to work.
 
Ah yes I saw the cranes months ago but just thought they were the usual white naped crane.
I did see marmosets on my last visit.
I don't remember the vonistra ever having signage; does anyone have a picture?

Edit: When I say ever having signage I'm referring to informational signage and not the "Explorer to Madagascar" thing.

Well the zoo had a Facebook post the other day advertising their Ring-Tailed Vontsira so I'd imagine they're still on-exhibit.

The zoo has opened a new Grand Cayman Iguana enclosure in the old Lace Monitor enclosure in World of Reptiles.

Ring-tailed Vontsiras are definitely still on exhibit. I saw both of them on Sunday
 
Some more news from zoo_enthusiast's visit Sunday that he posted elsewhere:
-Apparently the Grey Mouse Lemurs are back on-exhibit
-Seems the zoo may now keep Burton's Legless Lizard and Mozambique Girdled Lizard in World of Reptiles
-The Guanay Cormorant is still alive
-The Green Junglefowl have had chicks
-The bee-eater enclosure is empty and under renovation
-The quetzal enclosure is being renovated into an Australian finch enclosure

This is actually interesting. Knowing the Bronx Zoo layout this may be near the Bronx River exit, they have space near the overflow parking. It would have been great if the Nature Playground had animal exhibits too (bald eagles, owls, beaver, otters) so it would not just be a playground. It also looks somewhat similar to the treehouse section of the Children's Zoo. I wonder how much it'll cost extra...
 
Actually, this winter the Bronx River Parking and Entrance area is closed for construction. I wonder if that area is where the zip line and playground will be built. I can't see anywhere else they would put this that doesn't interfere with Wild Asia. So next summer, these attractions could be what you see upon entry to the zoo.
