Is there any Sandford's lemur left in captivity in the world except Madagascar? (I know there are none in Europe).
One male at the Lemur Conservation Foundation in Myakka City, Florida. He just turned 26, and I am going to try to go and see him this summer. I don't think he was wild caught, as the only American imports of Sandford's I'm aware of were by the DLC: one individual in 1969 and 2.2 in 1984. Duke was importing until 1993, so it's possible he was wild caught at a very young age. If anyone has more info on the animal I would be very glad to hear it!

Yes, it seems Florida is the "last refuge" so to say for at least two lemur species (one overall in captivity and one just in the USA), so I'll certainly try to get there as soon as I can.
I'd absolutely love to get to Duke sooner than later, though I fear that won't be happening anytime soon.

Had a visit to the zoo yesterday. There's not much to report, though.
-There's a baby babirusa
-There were two eggs in a nest in the Black-Necked Crane enclosure, though not sure if the zoo has more than one bird so might just be a surrogate situation
-There are now Bar-Headed Geese and Red-Crowned Cranes on the monorail
-A female Andean COTR was added again to the mountain-toucan enclosure
-Mozambique Girdled Lizard, Solomon Islands Spiny Monitor, Blessed Poison Dart Frog, and Evergreen Toad have all been added to World of Reptiles

Do they ride the monorail continuously, or do the birds hop on and off in shifts?
One thing I just remembered that I forgot to mention is that the Fossa enclosure has been fully switched to a nocturnal lighting setting.

I suspect it will bring in more revenue, and on the bright side at least it's mostly been built in an area that would never be used for animal exhibits. However, it is a shame that those old African Plains yards have been lost...

There are cavy in the exhibit that the pudú would be in, but I don't know if they're new or not. I agree about the hoopoe, and he was one of many reasons I was so adamant to get to Bronx earlier this year.
In other sad news, the Maxwell's duikers have also kicked the bucket, so to say. The guanay cormorant is still around, though.
