Yup! Very good job I figured it'd take a lot longer than that to work out the answer.

Bronx keeps the species off-exhibit and as for the hint, when the Western World first encountered dead specimens of the species, the wings and legs had been removed and the native people told them that the birds didn't fly but instead floated around like magic, hence the name "birds-of-paradise".
