Today the WCS closed all five of their collections, including the Bronx Zoo, several hours early due to the poor outdoor air quality caused by the drifting smoke from the Canadian wildfires.

As did a number of other zoos across New York state... I saw facebook posts today stating Buffalo Zoo closed early and Rosamond Gifford Zoo was closed all day. I'm sure that other zoos across the state probably did as well.

Bronx has moved the Egyptian Tortoises and Common Flat Lizards into the terrarium with Pancake Tortoises and Mozambique Girdled Lizards. The first terrarium in that long row now houses Cyclades Blunt-Nosed Vipers, Macrovipera (lebetinus) schweizeri. That's another very rare and unique viper recently placed on-exhibit by Bronx!

Guam Rail is now with Anhinga, Snowy Egret, and Boat-Billed Heron but unsigned. Look at the ground in that room.

A Kagu is now with Golden-Headed Quetzal and Yellow-Rumped Cacique in World of Birds (first floor, last room, on the right).

Ah thank you it’s really hard to see the ground in that room :p I also saw an unsigned Scarlet Ibis in that room when I went, so that can make sense.

I saw the Kagu yesterday but didn’t know if it was worth noting since the Cock-of-the-Rock has been there since last year but remains unsigned.

This could mean the Sulawesi hornbill(s) was/were transferred or passed away, but doesn't confirm. Does anyone know how many the zoo held?
They were likely transferred since I saw both of them alive and well shortly before the exhibit closed

The hornbills are likely behind the scenes. The zoo has bred this pair in the past and I've witnessed breeding/nesting behavior with them on-exhibit. They may just be off-show for breeding as the ABH habitat really isn't very great for them (nor is it best for the falcons..).

Kagu are a pretty sought-after bird for people to see, so I'd make a big deal about it being visible.

Do u know how many Komodo Dragons are left at Bronx Zoo after this transfer.

Could anyone tell me when the Galapagos giant tortoises left the zoo? Just trying to work out if I saw them in the winter of 2019, as it would be a new subspecies for me.

They never left the zoo, they went off-exhibit. They had them on-exhibit only as hatchlings and I think by 2019 they had replaced them with monitors in World of Reptiles.
