Bronx Zoo Bronx Zoo News 2023

Madagascar! now has a group of young Madagascar Nile Crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus madagascariensis), if you accept the subspecies.
Actually saw them on Sunday, was shocked to see them when I was expecting the big crocodiles. There were I think 5 of them in the exhibit and honestly were kinda cute. I wonder what happened to the adult crocodiles, does anyone know?

A few notes regarding birds from todays visit
-The entire Pheasant Aviary is currently closed for repairs with no birds inside of it.
-The 2 Palm Nut Vultures has moved to the former Cinereous Vulture habitat in the Birds of Prey. The Cinereous Vulture is no longer on exhibit anywhere.
-There are now Masked Lapwing, African Pygmy Goose, and Cotton Pygmy Goose mixed in with the Guam Kingfisher in the Aquatic Bird House
-There is an unsigned Red-crested Turaco mixed in with the Sunbittern and Grey-cowled Wood Rail in the Aquatic Bird House
-At least 1 unsigned Mountain Peacock Pheasant mixed in with the Black-faced Ibis in Astro Court
-There are now a pair of Red-fan Parrots in the World of Birds in the 5th or 6th habitat (I forgot to write down which)
-Construction is picking up on the ramps. The down ramp (Where you can see the Cranes and Emu) seems to be almost complete, while the up ramp still needs quite a bit of work done. I could see it completing late this year or early next year

Hi all. Would anybody happen to know when the Gharial returned to jungleworld, and what changed to make it more suitable? I believe there were initially issues due to water filtration.

Hello everyone just a quick question did they get rid of the Amur leopard?, i went on Wednesday and they seemed to closed it off does anyone why

Very random question, but does anyone know how many Capercaillies are held currently at the Bronx? If I recall there as at least 2 males correct?

There is another fennec fox living at the zoo now that male Bitti was transferred. He came from the Buttonwood Park Zoo and apparently moved for a breeding reccomendation. This is stated on the New Bedford zoo's page on Facebook.

does anyone know if they have any plans on breeding one of their male lions, because are they just going to get more lions after they die or just move on with the species( which they probably won't do)

Probably wait until the ssp says to continue breeding. Until then, the Bronx will just hold non-breeding groups.

Lions breed like all hell in zoos so they try not to breed often

Not sure if this is a good place to ask, but does anyone know if the TV show will be returning anytime soon? Has there been any filming going on?
