Bronx Zoo Bronx Zoo News 2025

I'm visiting for the first time this year on Saturday. Do you think some of the animals, Okapi, Giraffes, Gorillas, etc., will be outdoors? It's gonna be a high of 77 degrees.

That temperature should be more than sufficient for the aforementioned animals to be outside, although you may still see a giraffe or two indoors at the Giraffe Building. It will be in the low 60s by the time the zoo opens.

Updates from Saturday's visit:
  • There's a beautiful blue tree monitor in the World of Reptiles nursery.
  • There's an unsigned Mexican alligator lizard in the World of Reptiles.
  • The White-nape Crane pair is back on exhibit.
  • The silvered langur baby is now almost completely silver!

Speaking of maps, I figure Bronx didn't phase out Przewalski's horses or Indian rhinos from the Wild Asia Monorail, but... am I the only one who never noticed that they haven't been included in recent maps?

(Side note, the new logo for World of Darkness looks stellar! The reopening can't come soon enough!!)

I may be crazy but did the zoo just open the indoor viewing area for Gorillas in the Congo or has always been there

It has always been there though the gorillas exhibited there are on a rotating basis. In winter months the majority of the gorilla collection are held in on site holding facilities as the indoor facility is too small to exhibit them collectively at any given time .
A nice, retractable , room would solve that problem with year round viewing of all Congo species - okapi, Red forest hogs, Colobus monkeys , mandrill , et al..
Who’s going to pay for it?
Will public fork out $20@ a piece to see their Gorillas in Winter?
Zurich zoo’s Madagascar exhibit is a perfect role model - as well as Omaha
But New York City residents have no civic pride so do not expect it soon

This is old news it is hasn't been on exhibit for a while now but I don't know where to ask, what happened to the huge nile crocodile in Madagascar? It's been two smaller ones in the exhibit the last several times I've been
