Bronx Zoo Tiger Attack

That is among the stupidest things I've heard anyone do... ok rivaled by the times young men (always!) have jumped into the Bronx Zoo lion exhibit, the old gorilla exhibit (not CGF).

These feats require some strength, agility, determination and the i.q. of a pebble
Why aren't they campaigning for political office then?

It ate one of his legs, I don't think he will do that again as he will struggle to climb into another zoo enclosure now.

A 25-year-old man has been mauled by a tiger at the Bronx Zoo in New York City after he jumped from an elevated train into a tiger enclosure.

The man lost a leg in the mauling, police said, and has been taken to hospital in critical condition.

Zoo staff used a fire extinguisher to chase the tiger off and the man was told to roll under the electrified wire to safety.

The man was conscious and talking, zoo director Jim Breheny said.

"If not for the quick response by our staff and their ability to perform well in emergency situations, the outcome would have been very different," he said in a statement.

It was unclear why the man jumped from the Wild Asia monorail, a train with open sides that takes visitors over the Bronx River and along the top of a fence past elephants, deer and tigers.

The man jumped 20 ft (6m) and cleared the two fences between spectators and the tiger enclosure.

-'tis but a scratch.
- A scratch? Your arm's off.
- No it isn't.
- Well, what's that then?
- I've had worse.

It's sad when the appropriate thing to do when someone jumps from a monorail into a tiger exhibit by default is to quote the Holy Grail, but alas there is probably not better fitting tribute.

Well I'm assuming it had big, pointy teeth...

I second what zooplantman said.

I don't know why I posted that, I'll probably just delete it.
Another article said that the man did not attempt to commit suicide, but wanted to be "one with the tiger." As I remember someone here on ZooChat saying (Who was it, Hix, perhaps?), "There is no end to the amount of idiots this planet can accomodate."

Does anyone know the exact ratio of idiots to the rest of the population at the moment?
