I am visiting the Bronx Zoo on 23rd of May. I have a couple of questions.

1: Will the Gorillas be out in the outdoor exhibit?

2: Will the Komodo Dragon exhibit be open?

3: What is the best way of getting to the Zoo from Manhattan?

welcome

1. Most probably yes

2. No idea

3. Subway or bus: Directions
(unless, of course, you have rented a car. But a car is neither necessary nor helpful in New York City)
The Train mentioned is less convenient and more expensive. But if it's a fine day, the walk from the train by the Botanic garden to the zoo can be lovely

1. Yes most likely as long as it is not stormy weather. All of the animals at the zoo should be outdoors including the ones in African Plains and Wild Asia.

2. I would guess not as it would have been announced and there is a lot of work to go I would guess that it will open later this year or early next year.

3. No idea as I don't live in the city.

You might want to consider a 2 day visit, just to make sure you can squeeze everything in. The Bronx Zoo is a massive zoo, and it's incredibly difficult to see everything in one day. I only managed to on my visit after Hurricane Sandy because many exhibits were closed due to damage from the storm or the weather was not suitable for the animals.

Hi, I has just come to USA, and I am also eager to know, What is the best way of getting to the Zoo from Train Station? As I would go to New York from New Haven. Besides, my primary goals are fossa, ring-tailed mongoose and okapi, will they be displayed outside in April? Thank you!

The Fossas and Ring-Tailed Mongooses do not have outdoor exhibits, but should be on exhibit in Madagascar! I would think that the Okapi would be outdoors if the weather is nice.

Completely agree with a 2 day visit we realized at about 3 o clock pm that we had not seen even half the zoo(probably should not have spent 3 hrs at Congo Gorilla Forest):D So we had to add another day to our NYC trip and do a 2nd day at the Bronx Zoo!

Hello

Okapis: depends on what part of April. The weather is very changeable in New York in April and some days may be too cold. The later it is in the month, the more likely the okapi will be out.

For transportation, see my earlier post with the link to the Bronx Zoo site.
To go from New Haven or to New Haven will require going through Manhattan (downtown New York City) if using trains. So if you are visiting New Haven now, you can take the MetroNorth train into New York (Grand Central Station) and then either switch to subways to go to the zoo directly by train from Grand Central Station: take the Harlem Line to Fordham and either walk to the zoo entrance or take the Bx9 bus eastward to 183rd Street and Southern Blvd. The walk is not far... especially by Beijing standards ;)
Anyone can direct you from the train station in the Bronx to the zoo. The Botanical Garden is across the street from the train station (and lies between the train station and the zoo) and the guard at the Garden gate can also direct you if need be

Wednesdays are reduced entry fee days and the zoo can be very crowded if the weather is nice
