Two questions about the zoo has anyone every seen the fossa awake inside the madagascar exhibit. And second what happened to the cheetahs.

I saw the fossa moving around last summer in the brilliant Madagascar house, and when I was there the cheetahs had already been moved. ZooChat member Reduakari often is up to date in terms of developments at the Bronx Zoo, so you could possibly ask him.

The last cheetah died last....January? The exhibit had last showing seasons (since Africa is basically only open in the summer/spring season) ostrich's in them. The last time I was at the zoo before I moved in Feb....they were starting a COMPLETE renovation of that area as it was entirely gutted. Would be interested in knowing what we're putting there as it was a subpar cheetah exhibit anywho.

I've seen the foosa about 40-50 times.Perhaps 5 of those times he has been awake. Quite interesting--Cincinnati Zoo foosa is always moving. Probably one of the larger exhibits in the cat house though...

I wonder if that's where the announced hyena and or aardvark exhibits will go?

Anyone know when the new bull Indian rhino calf was born and any idea to whom (both sire and dam as NY Bronx has 2 proven bulls and 3 proven cows.

The obvious choice would be Kali (whose 2004 calf was sent on B/L to SD-WAP last year), but I LIKE to be sure! Also, it would be nice to know whether Vinu or Sanjay is the culprit!!!

The October 2008 calf is Vinu x Kali

There are announced hyena and aardvarks?

I figured it out--the press release and all. That's gotta be where the hyena would go as Bronx is very geographically dispersed.

Does anyone know that the Rare Animal Range the press release refers to IS? Are they talking about the formosan sika deer exhibit behind the birds of prey prison?

The Rare Animal Range are or what used to be the large hoofstock pens behind the Aquatic Bird House and Birds of Prey aviaries.

Are they going to redo the whole Carter Giraffe Building or just the cheetah exhibit? And does anyone know what kind of hyena are they going to have?
