Two chances and two bears with good genes for Anana to get pregnant again this year.
 
The following animals are off exhibit due to animal needs or exhibit renovations:

Painted Dogs at Habitat Africa (effective May 3 for approximately 10 weeks)
 
Brookfield is starting a new Animal Ambassador Program this summer. Staff will pop up in random places, bringing with them animals trained to engage the guests. Common and unusual mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians will be used. They include owls, genets, wallaby, ring-tailed lemurs, tamandua, Humboldt penguin, servals, European lynx, ring-tailed cats.
 
The zoo also just received two Jamaican Boas in cooperation with Jacksonville Zoo. The snakes will be on exhibit in The Living Coast.

The zoo also has its first breeding pair of Baird's Tapirs. Chac, a five-year-old male, and Jezebel, a 24-year-old female. They join the zoos two lowland tapirs in the Pachyderm House.

Sounds like a cool idea we like that they are using a wide variety animals.

Arki, Brookfield Zoo's former polar bear, passed away today at the age of 28. It is unknown what her cause of death is, however I am guessing it was due to old age-related causes. She passed away in her sleep.
 
Rumour has it that the zoo now only has 3 male black rhinos. What has happened to their erstwhile breeding pairs? What are the long term plans for the Pachyderm House and surrounding area?
 
The zoo has 2 male rhinos, Jimma and Nakili, and 1 female named Layla. Layla is very young, I believe around 4-5 years old. The zoo plans on breeding Layla and Nakili in the future.
 
Ill be at the zoo bright and early tomorrow at 930. if any zoochatters what me to take any pics are found out nay info let me know. I do know the Australian Building is still closed and planned to reopen on June 15th.

Could you try to find out where the tamandua came from and if he/she will have an exhibit or will only be walked around the zoo by keepers. Thank you.

Brookfield Zoo posted a comment on their picture of the tamandua on their facebook page a few days ago:

"The tamandua can generally be found at Hamill Family Play Zoo, but may be with keepers at various places around the zoo also!"
 
Are they still planning to send the Lowland Tapirs out or not? Also, I saw a 5th Grey Seal when I was there on Wednesday. Any info on this animal?
 
The zoo is shipping out a male red river hog to LA zoo. the zoo also obtained a new male hog for breeding. there exhibit in Habitat Africa! The Forest will reopen in july. the keeper I was talking to also mentioned that the zoo no longer has forest buffalos and there exhibit will remain empty. The caracals were off exhibit due to possibly births and mating going on. The zoo is currently breeding fishing cats and no longer breeding clouded leopards. the aardvark that was born last year will be going to another zoo a month or two. some of the smaller exhibits in living coasts still have signs that say empty exhibit but I did realize in the chinchilla exhibit there was no chinchilla but snakes. no sign on what species though.
 
Where did the new male Red River Hog come from and what is his name? Also, I thought they only had 1 fishing cat
