This will not be the case. The gorillas and orangutans will each have their own exhibit and space is definitely not an issue. Again, these exhibits are being built on the west mall which is basically an enormous open field, which also means that the initial demolition will thankfully be minimal.

Does he truly mean the west mall or the area between Tropic World and the west mall? I only nitpick because building this out to cover both the area between and any part of the west mall would be absolutely spectacular.

And now that we know it will be built on the north side of the building, I wonder how this will affect the indoor exhibits. Specifically, as I've mentioned in the masterplan thread, how the construction of shifts may alter the walkway through Asia and Africa.

I'm very excited to see this come to fruition!
 
I personally hope with an outdoor enclosure of the apes, it could eventually lead to improvements to the inside of the Tropical World over the years. Many consider it the one exhibit that leaves much to be desired for many years.
 
I can't listen to the podcast right now, but I am over the moon to have the news confirmed that this is still happening. I've been greatly concerned that the zoo would have to put these plans off for a while and I'm so pleased it's still happening, and much more so to hear they are interested in giving the other primates some outdoor space, too. I was worried that would be overlooked, especially after the talk of smaller species being included in Great Bear Wilderness fizzled to nothing.

If they have a moat on one side and glass on the other, that's fine with me, but I think I definitely hope they offer glass windows if possible. One of the most unsatisfying things about Tropic World's current orangutan habitat is you are so far away from the animals and you don't really have the opportunity to see them very closely. Even the small windows by the snow leopard habitat here, or the cat habitats at Lincoln Park (formerly?) and Milwaukee can add a lot to the exhibit by offering that chance to see the animal closer. I am definitely not turning down moats here.

I would like to definetly see outside exhibits for the Orangutans, Hopefully we get three enclosures so all families can come out, though I don't know if that will be possible?
