I thought the master plan was going to be released this month?
That was the plan, but apparently has been set back.
Considering literally every development planned for 2023 has been delayed to next year (toucans exempt), I guess this shouldn't be too surprising... *sigh*

On the bright side, this means 2024 is going to be jam packed with developments and announcements. Starting off the year with a master plan announcement and then almost immediately getting an assortment of new exhibits throughout the year will make for a very exciting time. Terrific news about the donation of course; that will jumpstart things nicely and it's encouraging to see such support early on.

The macaw exhibit across from Sweety Bird appears to be complete, with a couple blue-and-yellow macaws hanging out inside it. The other one doesn’t have perching in it yet.

In The Swamp, a Timor python replaces the false water cobras, and a Papuan olive python replaces the mangrove snake.

I saw a couple of the flamingos taking a walk outside today! Their exhibit, however, is still not ready.

Forgot to mention that the birds in Tropic World: South America that I thought were taveta golden weavers, are actually saffron finches.

Very happy to hear the macaws and flamingos if briefly are out! Feels like the first breaths of the new era.

The Swamp seems like it has undergone a lot of change and turnover in the last year or two.

Sorry, I misread the information in this Daily Herold article:
Brookfield Zoo receives historic $40 million gift

The link to Jones and jones website was just meant to allow folks to see what their Dublin exhibit looks like.

That new donation was unexpected, but spells very good news for future developments. Shame about the matter plan getting delayed, but at least Brookfield has a hefty amount of cash to work with for the most state of the art exhibits. Better to do more planning than rush into things. That's why with some of the delays for the former 2023 mini exhibits, I don't mind the wait if more thought were put into them.

According to this article about the departure of the Orinoco crocodiles, all three of the central atrium enclosures in The Swamp are being combined into a single large aviary. This will allow for the addition of the American flamingos and increased flock sizes for all of the residents. The renovation will take place this winter.

This is an interesting development. I do think it's a shame for the exhibit to lose crocodilians as they have historically always been an important anchor for the building, but having just seen a beautiful mixed wetlands aviary, I think there is a lot of potential here to create something beautiful, especially if holding the flamingos indoors allows them to remain flighted!

Doesn't this presumably cause the loss of most of The Swamp's bird collection? I'm not a fan of this, there's some cool species in there.

Doesn't seem like it, quite the opposite in fact. The wording seems to imply that most if not all the current species will remain and see an increase in numbers held. Not sure if any new species are being added beyond the flamingos, but there’s no indication of any losses.

I don't mind this, but it is making me realize the entire south side of the zoo is indeed feathers and scales (now leaning more towards feathers) ;)
