The WPS Foundation donated $15,000 to Bruemmer Park Zoo. This grant will be used to build a new shelter for the deer. The zoo is currently working on plans for the new shelter as part of a master plan process for the zoo.
 
The zoo has been working on a large giraffe statue. The choice of giraffe is confusing, considering the zoo doesn't have any, and does not (as far as I know) have plans to add giraffes in the near-distant future? But it looks cool nonetheless, and it is TALL. Possibly life-sized, so maybe it will draw more people to the zoo as they continue to fund for a master plan.
 
Also, I've just learned from the zoo's website, the lower level of the Zoo is currently closed due to
the bobcat exhibit renovation. It will be interesting to see what the finished product looks like.
 
The new and improved bobcat exhibit will open on June 3, as well as the installation of a tall giraffe statue called "Melvin"

And from the newsletter: "2019 will be a great year for Bruemmer Park Zoo. The Deer, Goat & Sheep will get a new house. The green fencing above the bobcats will be removed and new fencing installed. New handrails will be installed on the back stairs. The old goat house will be removed and new fence installed."
 
The general outline of the master plan (first steps of it) are; the pheasant exhibit plans should be finalized by June of this year, and then fundraising will begin. Construction is expected to start in 2020. The Nature/Education Center is estimated to start construction in the next 2-3 years.
 
The zoo's annual ZoupArt event was a success!
Over 285 people braved the freezing cold and snowy weather and raised $5,449 for the zoo.
 
The zoo announced plans to build new shelter buildings for the deer and goats this summer. WPS Foundation has sponsored majority of the funding. The master plan is also being finalized in the near future.
 
The zoo has been finalizing the detailed plans for the new pheasant exhibit. They are hoping to have enough funds to begin construction in spring 2020. The exhibit will display up to 20 pheasant species, each in their own exhibit. The new deer and goat house will be built this fall.
 
The zoo has a sign near the entrance of its fundraising goals and upcoming projects. The sign has been updated for Phase II of the masterplan. The fundraising goal is 1.5 million for a multi-species, multi-exhibit, pheasant exhibit, an environmental education center and new restrooms, and a new green space.
-I have been amazed at how quickly this tiny zoo has been able to reach its fundraising goals in the past for updating the goat, bobcat, and arctic fox exhibits. This goal of $1.5 million, however, is significantly higher than any of the past goals, which usually were around $25,000-$40,000. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to reach this new goal.
 
Where is this little zoo getting its money/visitors from? The long rows of pheasant exhibits look very promising. When i visited over the summer I was overall impressed, but the place was empty. How is this little zoo able to execute these plans in a town of less than 3,000 people. Is most of its support from people on there way to Door County?

That I don't know. They do have major fundraising events and bring in a surprising haul after every one of them. Some local construction crews and businesses also donate money quite often.
 
The new Deer and Goat Barn is complete! They just have to put in some substrate and re-build some fencing around it, and then the deer and goats will be able to go into their new barn.
