Kbaker116, Oh I feel so bad! You missed the snow leopard cubs by one week! Their official public debut was this morning. I was the first visitor as the exhibit's in the back of the zoo, as you know, and people didn't know about it or didn't make it to that point yet. The zoo's director was there, snow leopard keepers, a docent, and eventually a news woman came to do a TV segment. I realized this morning the exhibit is horribly located, at least for visitors in the morning. The sun is glaring right above and if you want clear shots through the glass, you have crazy reflections! One of the snow leopard cubs is the more bold one, not afraid to climb on the rocks up high or come near people. He was hissing at the news woman though and she was like, "Okay, you don't like me." The same thing happen when the keeper climbed over and got his camera in an opening in the caged fence. Mama eventually caught on what was happening and stormed up pouncing at the fence until he left.
I'm excited for this new addition of the zoo. They fit right in!

It says it's one of the first zoos in the nation to have a cellphone app. But I thought quite a few zoos already did. I don't have an iPhone so I'm going to have to find someone who does or hope a visitor puts it on speaker phone, haha.

Not that many zoos have them Woodland Park in Seattle is the only other zoo we know of that has one,we hope more zoos jump on board with this

New zoo habitat coming for polar bears - Business First of Buffalo
I'm hoping the threat of AZA taking away our polar bears will make them go quicker on this exhibit. Although I know it's all about getting the funds. I'm not a fan though that they've only done watercolor sketches of the exhibit. I know they need to know their budget, though they said it's going to be $18 million, why couldn't they sketch out a few possibilites and be farther ahead on the design? I feel like a sketch is a long way from the completion of an exhibit.
Could some read the last couple sentences and tell me what you think it means? It says our female polar bear was mated with a male polar bear from another zoo and then it mentions about her possible pregnancy. Does that mean she was paired with another polar bear before she came to the zoo (which I think was more than a few years ago), or was she artifically inseminated? The thing is I know her and our male polar bear were mating a lot this winter and he was brought here as a recommendation from the SSP. So it's almost like, who's the father? Nanuq's twin brother, Norton, mated this winter at the Erie Zoo and they think Patches is pregnant. I feel if one brother could sire cubs, then the other one could, despite their old age. Well, if she does give birth I'm sure the article will explain more who is the father. Does anyone read the sentence differently?

I have really become interested in this great zoo after reading snowleopard's review and eeing his photos, as well as blospz's photos. If I am every anywhere near this zoo, I will be sure to visit it, as it looks to be possibly one of the 10 best zoos in America.

Are you sure you mean the Buffalo Zoo? The reason I ask is because Snowleopard didn't say a whole lot of good things about the zoo and although I love it, I know it's shortcomings. But if you did really mean it, I enjoy your enthusiasm. Let me know if ever do visit -- I could accompany you or at least give you some fun tidbits before your visit.
