Buffalo Zoo Buffalo Zoo 2014

Here's an other article of Arctic Edge with a little more details: Groundbreaking for Buffalo Zoo's Arctic Edge Exhibit

If you rather not read it, some key notes:
* The exhibit should be completed in May 2015.
* The polar bears will not be on exhibit until September 2015 to let vegetation grow.
* They hope to bring back Anana. They also want to inquire a breeding male (not sure where they will get one these days).

If the ban on Canadian bears didnt exist I would suggest bringing down Ganuk a male bear being held at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat. He's got a father who has sired 13 cubs (4 survivors due to one mothers lack of ability to raise her babies... tried to eat the first two litters and lacked milk to feed the next two) and is currently working on increasing that number with his two ladies. Ganuk has no possiblities for mating here... Cant breed with your mom or sister, why breed him to his fathers current mates. There are two immature wild born females who wont be breeding stock for 4 years minimum and his younger brother is already in place to breed with them. Ganuk just isnt needed in Canada. Hes only 5 but by the time the exhibit opens next year with breeding season already gone he will be old enough for the 2016 season. Alas the stupid ban on Canadian bears exists and US zoos are missing out on some great genetics being that his wild born parents are completely unrrepresented in the states.

I do hope in the near future the ban will be lifted so US zoos can acquire more polar bears. However, I would not mind if Anana was alone for awhile. Or if she had a cub in Brookfield eliminating her from breeding for a couple years. I feel bad she keeps moving to different exhibits and being paired with different males.

Oh dear, the replacement sea lion dies after being there for a short while. I hope Pocus stays around!
