Buffalo Zoo Buffalo Zoo 2015

I feel I have seen a couple exhibit renderings, but I still do not know where in the area the wolf, lynx, and bald eagle exhibits are going. When I walked by it on my past visits, I only see the two polar bear exhibits. Maybe the other exhibits are behind that right across from elephants.

Arctic Edge opens to the public on Saturday, September 12, 2015. Members get a special preview of the exhibit on Thursday, September 10th. It will consist of two female polar bears, American bald eagle, and Eurasian lynx.

Here is a visitor album of preview pictures of the Arctic Edge exhibit. The signs look basic, yet very cool graphics. The polar bear exhibit looks large with greenery and and hill in the middle. Still no pictures of the pool areas. But I am liking the look so far. A disadvantage is you can go completely around the exhibit so for people who like naturalistic exhibits where the illusion is still there, you'll lose that. A HUGE improvement from the old, concrete grottoes!

Looks much better than the slop put forth by STLZoo. Both yards look really nice with the second being nice and long heading towards the old exotic domestic animals exhibit. Lynx looks nice and spacious. Will the Wolves go in Arctic Edge? That are looks small, some length and extremely narrow and no privacy from prying eyes. I was hoping they'd use the exotic domestics area for them.

I'm excited to see photos of what the pools will look like in the exhibits. I am also curious if the zoo is getting gray or Arctic wolves as I've read both mentioned.

Buffalo Zoo Opens New Polar Bear Exhibit

The exhibit is open! I very much like the grassy yards as I'm sure the bears do as well! The only thing that stands out is that the pools don't seem very deep from the viewing windows, maybe theres additional lower viewing? I do have to say though I'm very surprised at the quality of the exhibit and i think this is better than the concert modern grotto St. Louis opened up.

I was unable to open the video, but I have seen some photos of the exhibit. I agree it did look like both pools were not that deep. Luna is supposed to be in the exhibit with the shallow pool and Anana in the exhibit with the deeper one. I guess their pools remind me of how San Diego's polar bear pools are set up. Perhaps a design flaw, but at least the rest of the exhibit is naturalistic. I read somewhere that the zoo's president, Donna Fernandes, saw a lot of polar bear exhibits try to resemble the winter months and you'll have rock work with snow on it. Because Buffalo will already supply real snow in the winter months, she wanted the exhibit to look like the tundra in the summer time.

Dont worry Blospz your video is not the same video the article had. The one you posted is gives a much better idea of what the exhibits are like.

I am hoping this is not the same video that was posted above, but this one gives a nice overlook of the new Arctic Edge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=183&v=QsXUgofpWwU

Different video. Complex looks really nice. I like how the water is shallower near the viewing windows and deeper towards the back. Interp center looks really fun and engaging. Glad the girls have two yards. Was surprised at the size of lynx being so large and the gray wolves yard being small-ish. Of the four exhibits opened up recently, NCZoo takes the win, followed by Buffalo, HVZoo and STLZoos horribly, puny exhibit.

Oh, I guess I didn't notice the pools are deeper in the back. That's better then. For your ranking, based on photos I have seen of all exhibits and being to NC Zoo, I would agree with you! I was afraid the secondary exhibits may not have as much detail and I'll have to go to the zoo to get a feel for the wolf exhibit. The interpreter center used to be a secondary gift shop. I am glad they incorporated it in the exhibit.

Talking with some visitors, it seems Luna is adjusting well and loves interacting with visitiors. Being cooped up inside for a year, who can blame her! Anana on the other hand, is slowly adjusting. Yesterday she was seen pacing in the same area. Some docents believed it may have been in the spot of her old exhibit where she paced and even thought she looked like she recognized the Rainforest building in the distance. I hope she's able to adjust. I'm sure it's not easy to return home, to a new exhibit and being at another zoo for two and half years. If she was/is pregnant, I think the stress of the move will probably eliminate a positive outcome.
