The zoo posted on their Instagram that their male holwer monkey Machado has past away at the age of 15 due to heart and digestive issues.
 
In around a week or so I should be able to make it down to Buffalo to see the zoo for the very first time. Any specific exhibits I should focus on seeing, or any general tips on how to see the Buffalo Zoo? I know that they're supposed to have a decent rainforest house, but besides that I know very little about this zoo.

Arctic Edge and its seal exhibit are pretty good, though some of the zoo is just average or mediocre (looking at you, Gorillas).

Not to mention a well-made otter exhibit with highly realistic rockwork, a decent hyena exhibit overlooking a roan antelope yard, some well-shaded Indian rhino/blackbuck yards, and a well-made complex called "Vanishing Animals" for snow leopards, maned wolves, lemurs, snow monkeys, etc.

Thanks for the advice, Arctic Edge is their new Polar Bear exhibit, right?

I've seen some photos of the Otter exhibit, it looks very nice. I haven't heard about the other exhibits though, I'll be interested to see how the Rhino exhibit looks. Thanks for the information!

There are Giraffes at the Buffalo Zoo? I don’t recall seeing any on my visit last month, but maybe my memory is a bit faulty. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the Buffalo Zoo? Having recently visited it’s interesting to hear what other people thought of it.

I've visited it many, many times, considering that it's only a bit of a drive from the GTA. It is a good zoo, but nothing truly spectacular. In the general area it's in, however, it's the best zoo around for a few hours in the U.S.
 
The zoo posted a video to Instagram and Twitter introducing there new Komodo Dragon Kadal. He arrived from the Cameron park zoo in October and is 5 years old. The post also announced the opening date of the renovated amphibian and reptile center as May 24th. I am very excited for this project and will post pictures as soon as I go, most likely the 24th.
 
I went to see the new Donna Fernandez Amphibian and reptile center today. It is a lot nicer than before and over all I am happy with it, but I feel like they did cheep out on a few things as this zoo has with most of its renovations. They didn't redo the exhibit with the Asian turtles when you enter from the lions. They just cleaned it. It is a fairly large exhibit and was used to hold different crocodilians in the past. I would have liked to see them move the turtles and crocodile lizard into one of the under water exhibits or keep them there but put in floor to ceiling glass with underwater viewing and Chinese alligators added. Most of the new enclosures are really nice I like any of the frog exhibits, beaded lizard, alligator lizard, and both of the mixed species river exhibits. But I did not think they needed so many rattlesnakes and the pancake tortoise, and sidewinder exhibits suck. The komodo exhibit is really nice but they didn't expand the exhibit size from when they had the alligator. They took out a wall of 3 exhibits for the komodo holding and informational displays. Would have rather pushed the komodo exhibit up and put holding behind so that you could have kept 3 more exhibits but they did add six in the room with the komodo so it is ok. Over all it is nice but I feel a real reptile house should have a crocodile or 2.

4. Reticulated Python (used to be 3 exhibits turned into 1 large exhibit)

Mata Mata, milk frogs ( a lot of milk frogs at. least 25) narrow bridged musk turtle
6. Mangrove snake
7. Jamaican boa
8. Mexican alligator lizard
9. Standing day geckos, 3 species of leaftailed gecko
10. Dumeril's monitor
11. Gopher tortoise, eastern diamondback rattlesnake (used to be 2 exhibits tuned into 1 larger one)
12. Indigo snake
13. Bushmaster
14. King cobra
15. Beaded lizard, Gila monster
16. Sidewinder
17. Mexican lance headed rattlesnake
Hallway exhibit:
Crocodile lizard, Indochina box turtle, 3 striped box turtle, annam leaf turtle
Side room
1. Hellbender
2. Spotted turtle, massasauga rattlesnake
3. Panama golden frog
4. Puerto Rico crested toad
5. Solomon Island leaf frog, prehensil tailed skunk
6. Eyelash viper, 3 dart frog species
Main exhibit: Nadal the Komodo Dragon
