Buffalo Zoo Buffalo Zoo News 2023

In addition to the new Komodo dragon (which was off exhibit today), there have been some other changes in the reptile house recently:
  • As I mentioned in another thread, there is no longer a Dumeril's monitor on exhibit. It has been replaced with a Brazilian rainbow boa.
  • The two Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes have been moved into the gopher tortoise exhibit. The tortoise is still signed as well, however I did not see it.
  • The Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes' old exhibit is empty, and has been completely gutted.
  • The Mexican lance-headed rattlesnake exhibit is also empty and gutted. No clue what happened to the rattlesnakes in this case, but I'd be surprised to see them phased out given the head of the zoo's reptile department is heavily involved with the lance-headed rattlesnake AZA program.

I went to the zoo yesterday for their extended hour zoo lights, the ARC was open and I spotted the gopher tortoise with the diamondbacks. The 2 enclosures are still empty. The caiman lizards look great in with the mata mata turtle, much better fit than the milk frogs that used to be in the enclosure. In the vanishing animal area the new red panda is in the old maned wolf enclosure with the snow leopards using the middle and end enclosures. Was a nice evening I always enjoy walking around a zoo when it's dark even better with a beer in hand.
