Road runner speed-dating :
Only 18 Road-runners are left in European zoos and to give the species a change 8 have been brought together at Burgers Zoo, Arnhem. Its hoped that new pairs can be formedand in this way breeding-results can be improved :).
 
White Rhino, Izala gave birth to a calf earlier today. The birth was being livestreamed via the zoos website. Unfortunately things didn't go to plan and the calf was sadly stillborn for reasons currently unknown
 
Hi guys,

I attempted to email the zoo about details of their chimp group and they (rightly I suppose) did not want to share the information because they are worried people will start calling out their names.

I have a list of the chimpanzee group as of 2010/2011. Can someone tell me if it's up to date and if not what the changes are?

Mama (F)
Tepel (F)
Jimmie (F)
Fons (M)
Moniek (F)
Roos (F)
Jing (M)
Gaby (F)
Marka (F)
Tesua (F)
Morami (F)
Giambo (M)
Tushi (F)
Geisha (F)
Raimee (F)

Is this the current state of the group?
 
Good news,

They also got a partner for the lone Yellow grosbeak in the Desert. Burgers Zoo is the only European zoo with this species, so it most probably have come from a private breeder.
 
Burgers recieved 3 new Chimp-females :
Moni ( 26 ) from Zoo Vesprem - Hongary. She didn't fitted in the group at that Zoo.
Marlene ( 40 ) and Erika ( 26 ) - mother and daughter from Givskud Zoo - Denmark. This Zoo plans to stop with keeping Chimps.
 
Yes there are now 17 apparently at the zoo.

By the way this is a group of 15; does anyone know which of these isn't there anymore?
 
Before this latest import / these additions they had gone down to 13 chimpanzees only. Even then I had questions as to which individuals remained at Burgers.

I know for definite these males are in Arnhem: Giambo (pure verus and new breeding male), Fons (hybrid + neutered), Jing (hybrid + neutered in late 2015) and Ghineau (hybrid + neutered in late 2015).

As for the females ... I have not a fricking idea which ones remain and which ones have gone or passed away. :confused:

Perhaps theoo might know more!

The website says its 14? But I know definitely that Mama, Moniek, Morami, Roos, Tushi and Raimee are still there...don't know about the others?
 
Group is indeed 17 individuals; Giambo, Fons, Jing and Ghineau, and Mama, Tepel, Jimmie, Moniek, Morami, Tesua, Tushi, Roos, Raimee, Gaby, Móni, Marlene and Erika. Marka passed away in 2012

I am pretty sure Mama is still alive (at least she was still in October), there is one other very old chimp alive (Jimmie I guess?), Tepel has died in 2013 at the age of approx. 54.

C) hybrid PT: Jing and Ghineau (MM) + Moniek, Morami, Erika (Givskud) and Monika/Moni (Veszprem) (FF).
 
Does anyone know of the situation regarding Ashy tailorbirds in the mangrove house? Do they still keep them and if so how many?

Mama, Jimmie & Moniek are survivors from the original formation of the famous Burgers social group of Chimpanzees.

Interesting that Giambo is a pure verus, meaning one of the original males that fathered him, was also. He's an unusual-looking Chimp too- he's covered all over in 'highlights' of silvery hair.

They are still signed in the mangrove hall, so I suppose they are still there.
(or he/she, if it is one individual only).

As I regularly go to Burgers' zoo I am able to provide a complete set
of photo's of every enclosure, terrarium or aviary row including species lists,
posted in the gallery of Burgers' Zoo. If people are interested I am willing to do so, but if no one is, I would rather not take the effort. ;)

So is anyone interested?
