Burgers' Zoo Burgers Zoo 2018

Why aren't they allowed to move to another collection

Anyway the last time that I heard something about a masterplan was back in 2012 or so right before their anniversary

I can not find anything from then but there was a map that showed the development

By now there is a new masterplan, so everything from 2012 is probably outdated.....

There are again Sri Lankan leopard twins, born May 26th, and this time it is looking good, both cubs have survived the critical first 10 days and can be followed on the livestream again:

This is from the same female who gave birth to twins at New Year, but then both cubs did not survive. Burgers' used to be the number one breeder of Sri Lankan leopards in Europe, but it had been years since a successful birth, so hopefully this will be the start of a new birthwave of these cats.

The jackal breeding is going exceptionally well nowadays. It is the 3th litter in a row if I'm not mistaken.

I heard from a zookeeper that they have planted seagrass in the jellyfish pool next to the crabs in the mangrove and will soon start to trying to place the first jellyfish in the mangrove.
Curious to see when we actually start seeing them as the water is just a muddy pool! Thanks for the info!
Hopefully seagrass will also be added lateron in the manatee tank

Yeah good question indeed. I know they took some measure to discourage the horseshoe crabs of making a mess their. But on my last visit i didnt see much improvement.

The mud doesnt seem to go so maybe we will see some changes with the pool getting an extra filter or something. The pool right now wouldnt show the jellyfish as its just brown

Great breeding results for Burgers' Zoo: 3 Greater roadrunners are currently being raised by their parents. This is the first breeding result for this species in recent years in Burgers' and with a current population of 26 roadrunners in European zoos (+ the 3 chicks now) this gives the monitoring program some more air.. Burgers' now keeps 4.2.3 roadrunners, 2 pairs, a male pair and the offspring. The current breeding pair is kept behind the scenes the other birds are held in the Desert and in the Pheasantry.

Some updates from social media:

- Burgers' Zoo received some Roadrunner eggs from Blijdorp in the hope that the 2 males in the Pheasantry will rear them.
- The Leopard cubs have been sexed as 1.1 and are doing fine
- 5 Golden jackal (from an earlier litter) have moved to a zoo in Ireland
- There are several Greater flamingo chicks.

More social media updates:

- The Montserrat orioles already reared 3 chicks this year in the Bush and the parents are already busy with the next round.
- There have been some changes in the White-bearded wildebeest group. The breeding male and one of his sons moved to Dvur Kralove where the previous male just died. A young male came to Burgers' from Wroclaw to continue the breeding in Burgers'. The last male still sired 5 calfs this year ;). The European zoo population is quite small with few founders, I don't know whether the American White-bearded wildebeest are related, but fresh blood would be nice ;).

And the Sun bear transfer window is open now. Male Frodo moved from Burgers' Zoo to Muenster yesterday and they expect the arrival of a new male from Edinburgh soon. One of the females in Burgers' is not fertile anymore and the other has a lowered fertility, but they hope that a virile male will change that a bit.

Transfer window open voor Maleise beren

This - I do not know who writes these articles - is just getting more annoying each month. No one of the male bears from Edinburgh is a proven breeder as the article says! Where do these people get their 'information' from? This is plain not true.
