Hi I'm a regular at Chester Zoo in England, but visiting Busch in Sept/Oct this year I'm interested to find out the history of the tigers any help appreciated![]()
Not sure about the history of the tigers, but BG has a massive amount of tigers, about 12 or so. There are normal Bengal, Golden Tigers, and White Tigers. The only history I know is that two tigers, Bhutan and Bala, came from a zoo in Texas I think, and King and Laney came from a zoo in Alabama?
I do not like cheetah hunt very much. (except the roller coaster!) The main exhibit is just for show (to make the cheetahs run) the only time you can see them all day is through a chain link fence and bamboo.
Actually, the main exhibit does have a long track for running, but other things for the cheetahs, such as a pool, shade, bushes, and more. Groups of cheetahs are alternated onto exhibit, providing enrichment for the groups as they can smell the former occupants of the exhibit. There is also open-air viewing and glass viewing. I don't know where you got the idea of a chain-link fence and bamboo, as I didn't see any chain-link fence, and "bamboo" was the backing for the exhibit.
When I went to the zoo in late march i clearly remember seeing a cheetah pace back and forth behind the main exhibit that was empty. I walked past the exhibit multiple times (I kept going back for the roller coaster) the exhibit was empty until the last 30 min before the it closes there was one cheetah sleeping.
No I did not go behind the scenes. I just was at the far left of the exhibit looking through the glass and through the bamboo and fenceing I saw a cheetah pacing back and forth waiting to get into the exhibit. There were some employs trying to set up the track but the machine broke in half because they were using a too short wire. Then they could never do it so they took a cheetah out on a leash and started talking about it. I only saw one cheetah in the exhibit and there were none behind the exhibit as far as I could see. If you went closer to the opening to the exhibit maybe they had more cheetahs at the time because I think they trad with White oak conservation Center because on one of the monitors I saw a short video on cheetah conservation and it kept showing the White Oak Conservation Center.
