BX OceaLife / BXSea - New Oceanarium in Bintaro

You're correct, they can be further identified by their white tail, aside from that white spots and darker body of course.

It is new, an single species was seen in the ray pool. It's likely that it was recently moved to the main tank, it was already quite big.

There's still the smaller one in the ray pool. I also noticed that there are two bowmouth guitarfish in the main tank.

I wish BXSea acquired more pig-nosed turtles for the king of river tank and reduced the amount of albino pangasius and aligator gars in the king of river tank because it may be causing the tank to crash if BXSea would add another fish in the tank. I'm actually wishing BXSea to acquire goliath tigerfishes and barramundis for the king of river tank, maybe the goliath tigerfishes at JAQ should be sent to BXSea's king of river.
Removing the pangasius and gar to be replaced by (I assumed, multiple and of the same size) tigerfish and barramundi, because the tank would crash seems like a fallacy, don't you think :p

My view is that the main issue would be overcrowding, which doesn't exactly mean the tank would crash, but still would heavily affected the behavior of the fishes there negatively, Increase in fish waste that further increase amonia in the water (Depending on their diet) can be very deadly for this fishes and can result in uncomfortable fish stench.

I feel the penguins of BXSea is the same as LPZ's giraffe. Both are in legal limbo rn.

IMO, I'd rather have the albino pangasius phased out and keep the gars there. Two or three silver arowanas will replace them to avoid overcrowding, and it would be a spectacle if the arowanas leap out of the tank to snatch its food during feeding time, but at a safe distance from the visitors' area.

BXSea has acquired binturongs, apparently housed in the rainforest area of BXSea

Though the animal itself is a rather common one in Indonesian zoos, I appreciate that they cited the area where the animals were sourced.

One comes from North Sumatra, while the other is from Central Java, specifically Semarang.

Not to mention their role in BXSea and elsewhere as interactible animals (While the post indiciate that they have a elevated wired-tunnel for them to roam), but I still appreciate their transparancy both online and offline. I hope they will do the same and more in the future.

I'm really interested in knowing why they sourced them from two vastly different source (Are they aware of the subspecies? Or just different contacts that they have). Seems very specific to just be a random distribution fact. Another of my observation is that Semarang seems to be a major source for new/small facilities (Ex. the generic tigers at Lembang Park & Zoo originally came from Semarang).

BXSea has announced a "Voices of the Forest" on June 2025, presumably a new exhibit from the looks of it. Its inhabitant is unknown for now:

The post announcing the "Voices of the Forest" doesn't really reveal anything aside of a forest-themed stuffs, so we honestly have no clear clue on what's in there. The quiz post with jaguar and what appears to be lemur might simply just be random quiz question, since these aren't obscure animals to a lot of Indonesians.

Though, with the recent arrival of binturong, a expansion of the current terrarium area might be possible.

I kinda imagine they scrap the penguin exhibit plan and use it as a lemur exhibit, since it already has an African theme complete with a baobab tree replica

IDK what will become of the water area, probably gonna be filled with cichlids or native Madagascan fishes like Paretroplus menarambo

With both posts' answer being a lemur, this seems too much to be a coincidence or random collection of forest animals..

With JAQS being the precedent for keeping lemurs in aquariums (as unsuitable as that is), I don't think it's a stretch to say that BXSea will follow suit

New quiz just dropped
This time it's a Prevost's Squirrel. I'm beginning to think that "Voices of the Forest" may be an animal show/interaction session probably held at what was going to be the African penguin exhibit featuring their binturongs, owl, cockatoo and (probably) lemur and Prevost's squirrel.

Not pretty important but, BXSea has completely ditched their old hammerhead shark mascots (Martin and Martha) and now they're replaced by Sinyo the false gharial and Leo the zebra shark. This further cements that BXSea will not acquire hammerhead sharks anymore after their fatal failure of keeping them last year.

I don't know if people here has heard about this but, BXSea has a long weekend/holiday special event titled "The Special Connection" where visitors could interact with some of their animals. Notably, they have a salmon-crested cockatoo named Mocca, which was off-display during normal days.

During Lunar New Year's Special Connection, they even brought in their buffy fish owl, which has been off-display for quite a while.

From my perspective, the whole hammerhead shark stuff might be one of the most embarassing PR disaster that I've seen with Indonesian zoos/facilities. They have produced multiple promotions, including unveiling their first two mascots that they think might be for a long time, only to have the actual sharks died only months after their arrival. Unsuprisingly they haven't said anything publicly about it, not that the general public care (Hence there's seems to be zero talks about it).

This also shows how tons of ambitions with zero knowledge/experiences might ended up be a disaster. The death of their hammerheads might be the thing that made them slowed their new additions, including potentialy the canning of African penguins, knowing how ambitious they were very early on in an attempt to copy Sea Life Bangkok, while focusing more on the much easier non-aquatic collection.

I agree with ya, and after 2 years we haven't heard anything about their sand tiger shark that was supposedly to be brought from South Africa. I feel it may have been potentially canned as well. BXSea fumbled hard with them trying to copy Sea Life Bangkok, but for now they decided to take a more original path and abandon their ambition. Not to mention they've started housing animals from BKSDA Jakarta.

Looking at this pic again made me think that this could work for the false gharials, should they outgrow their exhibit one day. It has underwater viewing and adequate water for them. Just need to replace the lighting and rescape the exhibit.

The "Voices of the Forest" has opened today and the exhibits looked pretty disappointing to say the least :(

The lemurs, binturongs and squirrels were kept in pipe-like wire mesh exhibits that make them feel as if they're climbing through trees. Why, BXSea? Just.. why?

I wish BXSea stayed with their aquatic creature collection and a handful of reptiles, amphibians nd arthropods in their Rainforest exhibit, not following JAQS blindly like this.

BXSea Bintaro Jaya di Instagram: "Ketemu teman baru di Rainforest, yuk, Seaventurer! BXSea kedatangan 3 teman baru yang siap kamu temui langsung di zona Rainforest! Too bad, they should've housed these mammals to the outdoor area along with BXBirds and chitals. Sad to see BXSea following JAQ's path for acquiring land mammals.
