Many tanks have species signed on them that were previously kept at Cairns Aquarium but have been gone for many years. I will not be mentioning those on this list to avoid confusion. Additionally the signage for several species is on the wrong tanks.

Tanks are listed in approximately the order they are encountered, but as some hallways have tanks on both sides the tank order in these areas is not precise. Listing of species in each tank is in no particular order.

Great list! I actually have never heard of a “greater” bamboo shark till today, I assume it’s pretty much exclusively in Aussie aquaria if any as of now since it’s an endemic species or subspecies. I managed to find one paper reporting on it, a Ph.D thesis by a (presumably now Dr.) Fahmi from the University of Queensland, I’d be interested to see where further study goes as to its validity as a new genus.

Yes, that Fahmi paper, the original description, is basically the only reference I can find to the species online. It seems taxonomic authorities eg. Eschmeyer's and FishBase haven't accepted it, nor do they list C. magnus as a synonym of C. punctatus. Even so, I've decided to note magnus as a seperate species in my notes in case it eventually gains wider acceptance. As far as I can tell, all Chiloscyllium punctatus-types I've seen in Australian aquaria seem to be C. magnus based on caudal fin shape (although there were a few where I could not see the tail well enough to judge). I would suspect the species may be present in international aquariums too, as Cairns Marine, the major marine fish exporter in Australia, collects their animals from within C. magnus range. Additionally, the paper refers to eastern Indian Ocean C. punctatum as C. cf. magnus, so if those do turn out to be conspecific with Australian populations, that's another avenue C. magnus could take to end up in international facilities.

I’ll probably hold off on recognizing it until it’s more broadly accepted and studied (i.e. has been corroborated by other researchers and gets on those sites you mentioned), but it’s no doubt fascinating. I’ll definitely be watching with great interest!

Tank 6
- Upside-down jelly sp. (Cassiopea sp.) – signed as C. andromeda but I do not trust that as this genus is very frequently misidentified
forgot to include:
- Glassfish sp. (Ambassidae) - unsigned

I also neglected to mention this list is just for what can be seen with a standard admission - there is also a behind-the-scenes sea turtle hospital and coral biobank that can be seen on an additional fee tour. I've never done either tour so I don't really know what they have.
