A new facility is opening in Cairns in March 2024. Cairns koalas and creatures will be located within the Pier shopping centre. It is owned by the same group which run Rainforestation Nature Park, Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas, and Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. They also owned the now closed Cairns Wildlife Dome with some of the animals from that facility moving to the new location.

At present the only confirmed animal is koalas with their habitat already open.

News articles provide the following description of the facility

Set to take guests on an immersive journey spanning from the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef to the rugged beauty of the Australian Outback.

Photos of each enclosure are in the gallery now. Overall, a tiny facility with some interesting species but generally standard displays. There aren't many indoor aviaries around in Australian zoos but it was pretty spacious for all the birds. However, the three koalas have little space nor privacy. They are currently developing the mangrove tank and will acquire Crimson-winged Parrot: Australia - Other - ZooChat
