Caldwell Zoo Caldwell Zoo

Cheetah Update:

A Purrfect Habitat: Cheetah cubs move into their new homes at Caldwell Zoo

One of the cubs died and the remaining cub, Lilith, has deformities from inbreeding, which are anticipated to be fixed surgically. For now, Lilith is in the vet wing at the Caldwell Zoo.

Obviously this was not a planned breeding since it was inbreeding? I'm surprised a bit, given the SSP efforts to maintain genetic diversity with the cheetahs in captivity. But, cats will be cats. :)

The zoo is renovating the entire exhibit with an addition for “some of the most dynamic animals in all of the Americas,” including capybaras, giant otters, jaguars and more. They are in the process of finalizing plans that they started about three years ago. Once construction starts in early 2022, the project will take about 12 to 14 months to complete, with plans to open around Spring 2023.

Nice plans!

A pretty cool zoo director I may add.
