Zoo announces remodel of South American precinct:

Caldwell Zoo in Tyler announces remodel, improvement plans

A complete remodel of the South American section of the zoo was unanimously approved by the board of trustees, according to a press release from Caldwell Zoo.

The Amazon River’s Edge precinct will feature:

- Jaguar

- A flowing river water feature with giant river otters

- Quiet arboreal habitat for the sloth

- Walk-through aviary featuring an array of birds

- Giant anteater

- Capybara

Also on July 15th, the zoo announced that construction on the remodeling of the South American precinct has begun and will take around 14-18 months to complete.

Texas horned lizards hatch:

Caldwell Zoo helps 'iconic species of Texas' with new horned lizard hatchlings

Over the next few weeks, the little lizards will grow in size and once they’re strong enough they will be taken to a protected area and released into the wild.

On September 16th, the zoo announced that, alongside several AZA-accredited facilities, released (0.0.150+) Texas horned lizards back into the wild.

On December 22nd, the zoo officially announced they acquired the impala (named Indizien) and the wildebeest (named Zola and Rose). Notably, they don't mention a 3rd female white-bearded wildebeest.
