One of their bulls was recently relocated elsewhere within the AZA breeding program (so freeing up space).

Any breeding plans now for the rhinos?

I hope the new indoor café has a better food selection because what they had before was the worst food offerings of any zoo I have been to that has an actual café. The zoo overall is quite good so this was their weak point.
 
Really great news about the cheetah births. I know Caldwell has cheetahs (which I have seen) but I did not know they have a breeding setup. Cheetahs are notoriously difficult to breed and usually require special off-exhibit facilities. So maybe they have this or maybe it was just a stroke of luck? The article does not go into much detail.
 
A litter of four Cheetah cubs was born October 13. They have been joined by a female cub named Kubwa (born October 16) from the Wildlife Safari Oregon, who was rejected by her mother:

Kubwa is "the most important cub to be born this year": both her parents were first time breeders, meaning her genetic line is completely unique.

Currently, the zoo can breed one cheetah a year. With a new facility and extra space for moms and cubs, more cheetahs should be able to give birth each year.

The expansion will be behind the breeding facility "to give the animals privacy that they need and deserve."

Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2021 and be completed around April.

This is great news. Combined with Fossil Rim, this could make central Texas the cheetah breeding capitol of America.
 
Cheetah Update:

A Purrfect Habitat: Cheetah cubs move into their new homes at Caldwell Zoo

Mary Jo gave birth to four cubs in October and fostered a fifth, Kubwa:

Kubwa, the foster cub, was three to four days younger than her new siblings when she arrived at the zoo. After a while, she couldn’t move and couldn’t see well. She was taken to a specialist in Dallas, where she underwent an MRI. Eventually, Kubwa was humanely euthanized. The Caldwell Zoo is waiting for results from extensive tests to figure out what happened to Kubwa.

In early January, two of the remaining four cubs got sick with a rare virus zookeepers weren’t expecting, parvo. One of the cubs died and the remaining cub, Lilith, has deformities from inbreeding, which are anticipated to be fixed surgically. For now, Lilith is in the vet wing at the Caldwell Zoo.

The other two cubs, Leeroy Jenkins and Ichabod, continue to be reared by Mary Jo.
