Partir c'est mourir un peu (for the éléphants that is)

With elephants leaving mid April, are the plans still on to have the (new rhino) exhibit and indoor stalls refurbed for end June. That was the earlier statement …, given the indoor lots will have to be remodeled that is a fair bit of work cut out for them!

I assume the outside yards will also be completely redesigned. Allthough, I suspect that will be far easier (not to say it will not be at good cost).

Any conceptual plans available?

I dont know the extent of the conversions needed but your right if there is a lot to be done a month and a half isnt much. I excluded 30 days for quarantine in the facility. However if they can safely house the rhinos and slowly make conversions inside it could work.

I don't think the plans are available through their website. You might try asking them through facebook. They are very good about answering questions quickly and honestly. They might not be able to tell you anything but its worth a try.

I'm not that familiar with the building, but shouldn't be that bad. Unless they go for sand-filled stalls over the concrete. That would require engineering and repinning, etc to handle the depths of the stall beds. What will take some time is the Komodo conversion. Hope it goes smoothly.

The zoo actually stayed $1 million in the black last year in spite of the flood and closure. $3.2 million was donated, $5 million in insurance, $4 million in staffing reductions, $1.56 million in events plus the money from admission and memberships.

Other vital stats... 25 buildings needed some amount of repair, 60 truck loads of mud removed and less than 2/3s of their expected attendance.
