Calgary Zoo Calgary Zoo News 2016

so you also refer to NWs and SWs and EBs and Ss and Js and so on? Doesn't that get confusing?

Nah. Ac's just make it easier. y'na mean?

@Gulo gulo: you often have valuable information that you pass onto ZooChat and I always appreciate your posts. However, the other day you wrote AFAIK and I admit that I had to Google the phrase as I had no idea what it meant. Now you are abbreviating rhino species...why not just type out full words? Thanks! :)

I have no idea what that is supposed to say.

Sorry, I was posting early and let my slanguage pop off while at my sons hockey practice. Acronyms just make it easier. You know what I mean? Sometimes, my African-american side comes out. I'll try to use my caucasian side from now on.

Thanks for the kind words. Honestly, would love to share more information, photos of collections, including my own, but the TOS is ridiculous. Not a fan of poaching photos and thanks to social media where I do share my photos, I see my animals and photos posted by other parties. It PMO (Pi$$e$ Me Off). I only share photos or info in chat amongst my usual trusted folk. As they don't steal or post information shared. I use ac's for a lot of animals besides those mentioned. That is something I learned from my zoo days for notes/logs. As depending on whay string I was on, it was just easier after adding their name (if they had one), tag, band number or color. Guess I assume too much and will try to remember to type out the full name or what not.

It be interesting to know which AZA/CAZA zoos are up for Indian rhinos now.

BTW: I assume bull Sabari will get an US home again.

I don't think Sabari will come to another Canadian Zoo. There are only two choices. Toronto which has Vishnu and Asha with their young calf Nandu. African Lion Safari has a male and a female who are to breed so bringing in another bull there is unlikely. It's far more likely he is going to the US.

US zoos without bulls...
Cincinnati
Mesker Park
LA (though there cow is very old)

Though there could be more swaps occurring or he is heading overseas.

I found another article on Sabari's departure. It explicitly said he would be travelling by land not air so an international home is out.

I'm predicting that there will be a masai giraffe boom in Canada over the next few years. Emara and Nabo are both proven breeders, and Kiko and M'stari at Toronto are both now at the younger side of being able to breed.

Hopefully 2017 will bring us two lovely giraffe calves!
