Zoologico de Cali Cali Zoo News

Finally the baby tigers are making their debut...their names are Kanu, Hati and Bali, which mean strength, power & Gold, or something similar, (the names are supposed to be the 3 main characteristics of a tiger)

Unfortunately, the article says their mother is an albino individual (I dont know why poeple dont understand that a white tiger is different from being albino)

Sorry for not having the article in english, but you can look at the pictures, it is about the andean bear cub which was born on january, It is the second bear that has been born from the actual pair, the other cub "Manoba" is held at the Jaime Duque Zoo

There are also 2 baby ring tailed lemurs, 2 collared peccaries, cotton topped tamarins and apparently there are some baby pacaranas on the way:):):)

On thursday last week (22nd of january) the new Australia outback exhibit was inaugurated. The exhibit is an immersion exhibit that resembles an old farm in the outback. Although I have not visited (I plan to do it when I travel back to Colombia) I have been quite updated with the zoo news.

The exhibit is actually inhabited by Red kangaroos , Red-necked wallabies, Cacatua alba & moluccensis, Emus, bearded dragons, Budgerigards, Laughing kookaburras & Cockatiels. There are also black swans in the lake in front of the entrance to the exhibit. Although they have not yet arrived Perenties and lorikeets (not sure which species) will be part of the exhibit, making Cali the only zoo in LatinAmerica with perenties.

The exhibit theme is water management and how to take care of it. Hopefully I will be able to get some pictures to upload soon.

For now some pictures can be seen here:

Several 2022 births so far for Cali have included three Plains Zebra, a Brazilian Tapir, a Ring-tailed Lemur and seven Red-footed Tortoises. The zoo also recently received a wild-born Giant Otter pup that was found without its parents - reported on ALPZA's social media page.

Via the AZA’s Twitter page, it shows a photo in their “Like” section of the Cali Zoo or Fundación Zoológica de Cali to have earned Top Honors in Exhibit Design for Por El Camino De Los Andes(Along The Andes Trail).

I was at this zoo last year around this time and I believe they were putting in a new Asian or tiger exhibit. I live in the United States and Cali and I love going to this zoo with my family.

According to their social media, they’re currently working on a new exhibit: Asia Fantástica(Fantastic Asia). It’s set to debut in 2025, will be home to 8 species and some of the aforementioned ones from their videos: Tigers, Gibbons, Hornbills, Antelope(looked much like Blackbuck), Pythons, and Komodo Dragons. There’s an article from BloopLoop talking about their design consultant who’s overseen their previous project Por El Camino De Los Andes and mentioned this project as well. Link is to BloopLoop article, new exhibit mentioned in section called “New habitats on the way”.

That's pretty fascinating. I am in Cali for another month or two and plan on going in the next couple weeks or so. I take my family every year and my niece has already been asking me since I arrive lol. I'll post an update on the status of the project. I have 100 or so photos from my previous visits as well.

I don’t know for when the zoo will be done with the new exhibit next year but it sounds like it will be a hit :) You should definitely upload to the appropriate gallery if you have photos from the zoo, I upload when I can for my local zoos. And seeing you’re semi-regular there, having new batches of animals and/or habitats would be cool to see in the Cali Zoo gallery.

I am also very interested in this zoo, any additions to the gallery would be great, especially pictures of the enclosures/habitats and general views of the zoo.

Honestly, I didn't even know Komodo dragons were kept in South American zoos. Currently, the Cali Zoo is probably the only one in South America keeping them.

Yes, they are currently the only ones, and this is the first time the species touches South American grounds. Some other zoos did try to obtain them though, like the National zoo in Santiago and the São Paulo aquarium. There were also rumors that Animália Park in Cotia wanted some as well.

I believe the São Paulo Aquarium kept Common Water Monitors.
