Camperdown Wildlife Centre Camperdown update

I noticed in the gallery that there is a bat cave or something similar. I missed it and was wondering if it still existed.

As a result of traffic management arrangements for the Royal cortege passing through Dundee on Sunday 11 September 2022, Camperdown Wildlife Centre, RPC Dundee and Caird Park Golf Courses will be closed all day (11 Sept).

From Facebook:

"We are devastated to announce that our alpha male wolf, Loki, has been humanely euthanised today. Despite an initially successful operation, there have been subsequent complications, and the difficult decision was reached to save the animal from further pain. The other four wolves in the pack have been exhibiting unusually anxious and abnormal behaviour since the operation, and it is with great sadness that these wolves have also been euthanised as a result. This course of action was a last resort, and our team is absolutely heartbroken. We ask you for your kind consideration at this time."

Sad news.I would not have thought of euthanizing the rest of the pack as necessary, which saddened me even more but i'm no animal expert,so await an experts explanation

I suspect they were trying to get out, in the absence of a leader.

News from my afternoon visit yesterday:

• The bat cave and bird aviaries next to it are closed off

• Cusimanse and B+W ruffed lemur don’t seem to be in the collection anymore

• Both giant anteaters were active, although one had a plaster on and seemed to be stressed and was stereotyping.

• The gibbons are in two enclosures- a cage at the entrance and a netted part in another part of the zoo.

• When I looked closely at a gibbon sitting on rhe ground, I was very surprised to see another face inside her arms! The young must have been very young, and was very small.

• Wolf enclosure is still empty

• No sign of ocelots or Lynxes

• A wildcat in an off-show cage behind the on-show one was very vocal.

• The bears seemed to be confined to a small holding cage at the back of the main enclosure. The viewing area was also closed off.

• Saw the meerkats being fed- there was about 20 of them!

• A very vocal rhea was making loud booming calls in its pen.
