Other 2021 News:

On April 4th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (0.1) lop-eared x Harlequin rabbit hybrid named PopTart and (0.2) Flemish giant rabbits named Ivy and Fern. They were born on February 12th, and are now a part of the animal ambassador program.

On April 7th, the zoo announced they had acquired (1.1) Toggenburg goats named Reese and Coco, which were born around February 17th.

On June 6th, the zoo announced they have built a new exhibit at the front of the zoo for monarch butterfly caterpillars. On June 21st, the zoo announced they have released 21 monarch butterflies back into the wild.

On June 30th, the zoo announced that they have acquired a (1.0) pot-bellied pig named Willy has is now a part of the animal ambassador program.

On July 1st, the zoo announced they have acquired (0.0.2) Welsh Harlequin ducks that were born on May 17th, which are now a part of the animal ambassador program. On October 2nd, the zoo announced their names, Dolly Parton and Betty White.

On July 10th, the zoo announced they have renovated the red panda exhibit, adding new ramps and platforms.

On August 15th, the zoo announced the genders of the cotton-top tamarin twins that were born on May 13th (1.1), and their names, Drizzt and Liriel.

On August 27th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) ankole-watusi cow named Howie, which arrived at the facility in July.

On August 29th, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) green-and-black poison dart frog was born, as well as (0.0.7) other poison dart frogs (species not specified) were also born.

On September 9th, the zoo announced the names of the (0.0.2) capybara that were born in June; Capychino and Pecan.

On September 16th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) red kangaroo named Regis from an unspecified zoo after his mother rejected him.

On October 21st, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) albino Burmese python named Indy which is now on exhibit in the Reptile House.

On December 13th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) blue-tongued skink named Harry which is now on exhibit in the Reptile House.

On December 20th, the zoo announced they have officially moved their emus in with the red kangaroos.

On December 23rd, the zoo announced they have acquired a (0.1) albino Sinaloan milk snake named Leche.

On January 20th, the zoo announced that the World of Birds building will be closed for a couple weeks as the boardwalk is getting repaired.

On March 21st, the zoo announced that the capybara that was born in February had been introduced to the rest of the family and is now publicly viewable. On June 1st, the zoo announced their names, Marigold and Buttercup.

Updates from my visit today:
  • The zoo, like many other zoos, has been taking many precautions to protect their birds from HPAI.
    • The free-roaming guineafowl are in a previously empty cage across from the flamingos and the peafowl are spread out between the macaw cages and former coati cage.
    • The World of Birds is closed and the macaws that live on the left side of the building are inside as well. The flamingos, caracara, and kookaburra are also off exhibit.
    • Birds that are still on exhibit include the Gray Parrot, cockatoo, Scarlet Macaw, eagle, outdoor waterfowl, Emus, condor, and owls.
  • According to the zoo's new map, White-eared Titis have repleced the Golden Lion Tamarins that lived with the marmoset. The toucan holding building is complete, however I did not see them or signage, so I would guess they have yet to arrive.
  • Amphibian & Reptile House updates:
    • The zoo no longer holds Tiger Salamander or Chinese Alligator
    • New reptiles include Common Blue-tongued Skink, Eastern Milk Snake, and American Alligator hatchlings
  • The zoo no longer has American Red Foxes (V. vulpes fulva), only the non-subspecific silver Red Fox.

  • Updates on HPAI precautions.
    • All free-roaming birds are now free-roaming again, thankfully.
    • World of Birds is still closed, but the macaws, flamingos, caracara, and kookaburra are back on-exhibit.
  • The Turquoise-fronted Amazon is gone.
  • The framework for the new Golden-headed Lion Tamarin and toucan exhibit is up. Still no sign of the titis.
  • The former black bear exhibit (the one near the Capybaras) is finally getting some work done. The pool is being bulldozed, not sure what the plan is for it.
  • In regards to the reptile house renovations, not much changed. A few exhibits were repainted and got new backgrounds. Very disappointing.
Edit: Also the Emus have been integrated with the kangaroos. Before they were contained in a side paddock.

Cape May still has Elk? When I visited in July I didn't see any, there was no sign for them and they weren't on the paper map I received (they used to be together with the bison and White-tailed Deer). Perhaps that was the last individual at the zoo and it was taken off-exhibit in preparation for its transfer.

They had at least 3 a year and a half ago
 
On October 15th, the zoo announced that (0.0.6) helmeted guineafowl hatched a couple weeks prior.

On October 20th, the zoo announced they acquired a (0.0.1) two-toed sloth (species not specified) named Matilda/Tilly which is now a part of the animal ambassador program.

On December 14th, the zoo announced they acquired (2.0) Bolivian grey titi monkeys named Vino and Pipeno from the Dallas Zoo in Texas which are now on exhibit with the common marmosets in the exhibit near the lions.
