Projects for the zoo start on page 52. They total slightly under $3 million, most of which goes to building a new entrance building and children's animal discovery center. It also includes replacing two roofs, repaving parts of the zoo, acquiring a new x-ray machine, new restrooms and concessions stands, and replacing the kangaroo barn. All of these projects are of desperate need and it will be extremely helpful to the zoo if some of these projects, in particular the new entry building, occurred.

It is very much worth noting just how much this plan includes compared to the 2017-2021 Capital Improvements Plan. The 2017 plan only included four projects for the zoo- the Rainforest Renovations that were paid for by one of the zoo's trust funds and roof repair on three buildings for a total of approximately $50,000. If most or all of the projects listed in this plan happen, the zoo will be in much better shape and able to move forward with new, more modern exhibits. One of the biggest things holding back the zoo is all the necessary repair work that has been put off for so many years. If this plan means the city is finally investing in repairing zoo buildings, I look forward to see what the future holds.
On July 4th, it was reported that 20 sculptures (many of which features animals) from Bricklive Animal Paradise have been placed around the zoo for exhibitation. The sculptures include:
- Leopard (on a tree limb)
- 2 tigers
- 2 lion cubs
- Adult lion
- Bear mother and cub
- Giraffe
- Jeep
- Red ruffed lemur
- 2 macaws (in a birdcage)
- Panda and 2 cubs
- Alligator
- Orangutan
A few updates from the last few months that haven't been mentioned:
- The zoo's fruit bats (Indian and Rodrigues) have been moved from the Rainforest to the former porcupine exhibit in Sadler. This change was necessary in order to reopen the Rainforest due to COVID-19. Now instead of free-flying, the bats are behind glass where they can't get COVID from a visitor or give COVID to a visitor. In addition, this change has made it easier for visitors to view the bats, as they were notoriously difficult to find in the Rainforest.
- The zoo has acquired a new 11-year old female debrazzas monkey named Daisy from the Bronx Zoo. She is currently rotating on exhibit with the zoo's male and introductions with the two will start soon.
- The zoo has acquired a striped skunk who has gone on exhibit in the Nocturnal Building's former loris exhibit. The plan is to start training this skunk as an education animal as well.

On September 12th, the zoo officially announced that they have acquired a (1.0) striped skunk named Pepé.

On October 17th, the zoo announced that on October 14th, a three-year-old (0.1) Hoffman's two-toed sloth named Tela has been acquired by the Saint Louis Zoo.

On November 13th, the zoo announced that a (1.0) golden lion tamarin named Cortez has passed away due to age-related liver disease.

On January 6th, 2022, the zoo announced that their (1.0) bearded dragon named Ludwig has passed away on January 4th. He was an ambassador animal who has been at the zoo since 2013.

Over the past few days, I've noticed that there has been some work being done over near the pond. I haven't actually been to the zoo, but am in the area a lot, so noticed some work being done. I do not know the extent to this work, but at a minimum the fence around the pond was replaced with a new, chain link fence, and it looks like a new shed (or shed-like building) was constructed. There was also a pile of lumber near the pond, so I'd assume more work will happen as well. It'll definitely be interesting to see the extent of this work happening, and at a minimum hopefully it leads to the reopening of the bridge.
On March 26th, the zoo announced that their (1.0) fennec fox named Clyde has passed away at age 11 due to leukemia.
