I’m visiting the zoo sometime next month and I haven’t gone there in a while so I have some questions.
  1. Where is the new red-crowned crane enclosure?
  2. Are the bats in Sadler building and the tropical rainforest building?
  3. Are the turquoise fronted Amazon part of the free-flight birds or are they in the former blue-winged Amazon aviary
  4. Are there any live species in Katie’s garden or the ambassador yard?
  5. Where is the former and new silvery-checked hornbill enclosure?
  6. Do they still house ring-tailed lemur and honeybee to the public, if so where?

Also, where is the former Southern Screamer enclosure and is there anything in it now?

I don’t have the answers to all your questions but I’ll do my best!

  1. It’s alongside the lawn by the lion and old sloth bear exhibits.
  2. Yes, the females are in the Sadler building and the males are in the rainforest building.
  3. I’m not sure, sorry!
  4. This past summer the red ruffed lemurs were in Katie’s Garden. At this time of year there probably won’t be any animals in the ambassador yard, but in the past they’ve had tortoises and the Palawan porcupine.
  5. The new hornbill exhibit is by the monitor exhibit, although I believe that she’s inside for the winter. Before she was in the aviary at Katie’s Garden.
  6. They no longer house ring tailed lemurs but the honey bees are housed near the bee statue.

Just to clarify!! The 3 meerkats that left Capron last year actually went to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. There are 3 more meerkats lined up to go to Pheonix Zoo at some point, but like they stated permitting can take a long time.

On November 15th, it was announced that the zoo transferred (3.0) slender-tailed meerkats to the Phoenix Zoo in Arizona.

On December 23rd, the zoo announced they reacquired (1.0) serval Sav from the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Rhode Island which is now on exhibit.

On February 8th, the zoo announced that they acquired plated lizards and tarantulas (species and how many weren't specified) as well as other unspecified animals which will go inside the former Nocturnal Building. The zoo also announced they replaced all of the old signage inside the building with electronic signage.

On February 27th, the zoo announced they acquired 2 barred owls named Clack and Click which are now on exhibit.

I think the yaks are a great addition to the zoo. They can be on exhibit year round, and they probably don't require a heated indoor facility which works well for the zoo's financial situation. They're large and exotic for visitors to see, but not too large for the small zoo to hold. I hope they become favorites among guests. Now, if they could only find a suitable occupant for the former sloth bear habitat.

There is a plan for that exhibit, just waiting on permits for the new animals!
