Great work! I will get this incorporating into the population list soon. If you have updates on the Canadian population moving forward, please share them, as I have had a hard time determining what the situation has been at Marineland Canada.

I recently herd back from another person and have a couple updates to make to the list. Eve's male calf who was born in 2019 died sometime in 2021. Gemini's female calf who was born in 2018 is named Calypso. Aurora's male calf born in 2018 is named Yukon. Lastly, Secord's male calf born in 2019 is named Gimli. With some of the dads; Mira and Frankie’s father is Andre, from going off the genetic testing
Qila is undetermined but could be Andre or Belyi.
That info is from the transfer permit, Appendix 4 genetic testing ; Permit Application to Import 5 Beluga Whales for Scientific Research (File No. 22629, Mystic Aquarium)
Additionally on social media ML confirmed that Jasper & Nahanni are half siblings through their father; Marineland of Canada on Instagram: "We heard today is #NationalSiblingDay! At Marineland, we have many beluga siblings living at both Arctic and Friendship Cove. Can you see the resemblance between Xavier and Eve (top), and Jasper and Nahanni (bottom)?"
Plus I always thought Bertie/Bernie and Balor were both males. Made the reverse mistake thinking Eos was male until 2021.
 
Population Update to include Canada, which I had been leaving out as I did not have reliable information. I have incorporated the information from above now, and hope we can keep the Canadian information accurate, especially if the population starts to move out of the only Canadian facility.

More likely that the land animals will move first. I’ve been following these « rumblings » for some time now and I don’t think they’ll be any imminent moves- if there are, the same restrictions around public display and breeding imposed to Mystic would be brought up and attached. What would (speculation) make a difference is how these initial restrictions are handled once the permit is up in 2025.
 
My biggest concern would be where Marineland belugas would move to. There's not exactly that much space available in the US population, and I'd hate to see the Marineland belugas go from a bad zoo to a worse zoo, which would likely be the case if Marineland did send out belugas to countries other than the United States.

A couple of whales will most likely be moved to the states to facilities such as SeaWorld Orlando, SeaWorld San Diego, Georgia Aquarium, and maybe even Mystic Aquarium. There are plans for eight belugas to be moved to the Whale Sanctuary Project along with Kiska but I am not sure if they will go through. As for the rest of them, I think they will either stay or be sent to European and Asian facilities.

This link has more information on the process for export permits, with the requirements mostly US facilities would be the only ones eligible. Policy for obtaining a Ministerial permit authorizing the import or export of a living cetacean

There were previous beluga holders that may still have interest/facilities in the US:
New York Aquarium, Point Defiance Zoo, and Minnesota Zoo. I don't think 44 belugas can find homes in the US either though unfortunately.

Minnesota Zoo would be an interesting potential, all speculation on my part with no evidence to support this idea, but they are currently housing the Brookfield Zoo dolphins while their habitat is renovated. Then their marine mammal habitat (designed for bottlenose dolphins) will only house a single Hawaiian Monk Seal that is quite elderly. They must be thinking about what to do with that space.

While it would be great to see some more facilities house belugas, I'm skeptical from a PR standpoint if anyone would be willing to risk the acquisition of cetaceans, especially from Marineland, as we've all seen how that turned out for Mystic.

The last I have written down is 44, but it is really hard to know as they do not make any announcements. And Phil is not a reliable source as you noted. The drone video appears not to take any film of the Waldorf Theater where the dolphins and sea lions presentations are held. I believe there have been beluga in those presentations as well. Will be hard to know until Marineland opens for the season (speculation has been they may not), and someone reliable can get a count.
 
Kodiak passed away at Marineland Canada last week
it also says theres 36 whales at the park

"In a statement released to The Review Monday, the park said staff is “devastated” at the death of 26-year-old dolphin Sonar and 28-year-old beluga Kodiak last week."

"Kodiak was a “wonderful ambassador animal” and a favourite at Arctic Cove before moving to Friendship Cove in 2018. He was among 36 beluga whales at the park."

There are rumors that Grayson (1.0) at Georgia Aquarium may have died in June 2023. The last MMIR from the early July 2023 did not list anything, but there could be a delay in reporting. If this is true, Georgia is left without a male beluga. If anyone can confirm with a source, I will update the list.

He died June 10th, according to a document released in an FOIA request

I'm sure Ceta Base or another reliable source will share that information and the circumstances leading up to his death soon
