Wild chimpanzees have been listed as endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act for many years, but not their captive brethren so as to keep the medical, pet, and entertainment trades for chimps open. It looks like this is about to change as captive chimps may soon be listed as endangered also. This act will likely curtail the use of chimps in medical research and the pet trade.
