I live in the UK and find it so difficult in finding out the best way to get a career with giant pandas. I have a degree and i have had some work expereince with pandas and i am looking to work with them as soon as possible but being in a country where there are no pandas makes it hard to find the right contacts that can help me and give me advice. I cant apply for jobs in USA because you have to already be living there for a certain amount of time. Can anyone help?!!

erhm, i would say find a collection in another country and start working their and move through the sections, u will have to w8 ages til the UK get gaint pandas, i dont think we will see them in the next 90-100 years unless someone has lots of spare money ^^
it is hard, i mean ive contacted mexico zoo, australia zoo should be gettin them soon. Hopefully edinburgh zoo will be getting them next year. I know i need to get more work expereince with them before i can get a job but alot of zoos dont take volunteers and if they do you still have to be at college or you have to live in the country so options are limited!

1. Edinburgh probably wont get giant pandas by the way its going
2. its easier to go to places looking for a job in an easy section e.g big cats or something and wait for the section with giant pandas to have a opening.

i don't mean to sound rude, but you shouldn't really be saying Edinburgh are 100 years away from getting pandas just because the zoo hasn't issued a press release for every minor stage in negotiations...
The general public doesn't need updating for every small step in the process, so the zoo doesn't need to release any info. When something major happens then i'm sure people will be told. I don't think the zoo wants to proclaim the definate arrival of pandas because they could be left with egg on their face (ala Oakland and LA with the monkeys)
It is actually Adelaide zoo, that will be getting pandas in the next few months.
Senior management at Edinburgh zoo are still actively pursuing the panda situation, and with the new home deal almost finalised, the project is far from dead.
"Not getting much help" - What exactly do you mean? Who did you contact there at Vienna?
Is this really surprising - email a zoo's main office asking for a job with the pandas and you are unlikely to be taken seriously. You need to get experience working at other zoos (and lots of it) before you should even be attempting this.
AFAIK, you can do a one month volunteering during summer at Zoo Vienna; closing date for applications is in April. You can’t choose where to do volunteering, you will be assigned to any department, and basic German language skills at least on A2-level are necessary. There are lots of applications every year, so biology, zoology and vet students are preferred.
