Catalogue of Penguins in Captivity Worldwide

Port of Nagoya aquarium in Japan is down to 2 emperor penguins. I feel like this species will soon disappear from the collection.

The penguin species I have seen:
- King penguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus)
- Emperor penguin (A. forsteri)
- Western rockhopper penguin (E. chrysocome chrysocome)
- Northern rockhopper penguin (E. moseleyi)
- Eastern rockhopper penguin (E. chrysocome filholi)
- Macaroni penguin (Eudyptes chrysolophus)
- Australian little penguin (Eudyptula novaehollandiae)
- Adélie penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae)
- Chinstrap penguin (Pygoscelis antarcticus)
- Antarctic gentoo penguin (P. papua ellsworthi)
- Subantarctic gentoo penguin (P. papua papua)
- African penguin (Spheniscus demersus)
- Humboldt penguin (Spheniscus humboldti)
- Magellanic penguin (Spheniscus magellanicus)
I guess that's all of them in captivity outside the natural range?

AOAO SAPPORO in Japan now has two species of penguins: 22 northern rockhopper penguins and 5 little penguins. The northern rockhopper penguins are from Keikyu Aburatsubo Marine Park, and the little penguins are from Tokyo Sea Life Park.

El Paso Zoo is planning to house Magellanic penguins in the very near future, didn't see it mentioned yet.

Haichang sold its Qingdao, Tianjin, Wuhan and Chengdu theme parks in 2021.
The aquarium where emperor penguins still captivity in China include:
Dalian Laohutan Ocean Park
Zhengzhou Haichang Ocean Park
Nanjing Underwater World
Chengdu Polar Ocean Park
Wuhan Polar Ocean Park
Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park
Chimelong Ocean Kingdom
Recently, the Zoological and Botanical Garden of Changchun also rented emperor penguins from Dalian.

Jilin Changchun Jingyuetan Park rented emperor penguins from Dalian in 2016, and Hefei Ocean World rented emperor penguins from Nanjing Underwater World in 2009.

Facility in Japan that used to keep emperor penguins
Ueno Zoo
Kobe Oji Zoo
Fukuoka Aquarium (closed)
Nagasaki Aquarium (former Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium)
Shimonoseki City Aquarium (former Shimonoseki Marine Science Museum Kaiyokan)

Chapultepec zoo recieved 5 Humboldt penguins from Nagoya zoo in exchange for 5 volcano rabbits. The newly opened Acuario Michin in northern Mexico City has 5 Humboldt penguins. I do not know their source. Acuario Inbursa still has gentoo and chinstrap penguins. So Mexico City now has 3 institutions with penguins.

Some other information that hasn't been posted here worth noting:

In May of last year, it was announced that Montreal Biodome, Canada received 12 chinstrap penguins from SeaWorld San Antonio, USA.

As of this year (April 15 at least), Vinpearl Land (Phu Quoc Aquarium), Vietnam has a colony of Adélie penguins present, meaning the species is now present in four east Asian countries.

As many of you are aware, SeaWorld Orlando, USA is now the only holder of emperor penguins in the western hemisphere. The facility has also phased/is phasing out their western rockhoppers and has added macaroni penguins instead.
SeaWorld San Diego, USA no longer holds emperor and king penguins, and it is unlikely the rest of the macaronis and brush-tailed penguin species will be kept at the collection by the end of this year.
