The site-map being given to visitors at Blackbrook shows an exhibit near the penguins labelled 'Abruzzian Chamois'. Could someone please confirm/tell us more [number of animals, where they're coming from, etc.].
Other new arrivals at Blackbrook include 2.0 Black-rumped Agouti from Newquay.

And the revitalised Blackbrook mammal collection continues it's pleasingly idiosyncratic march. :D

As far as I'm aware, Munich are the only zoo currently keeping this subspecies of Pyrenean Chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica ornata), so Blackbrook will be only the second zoo displaying them.

The new version of the map doesn't have the chamois on it, but they are scheduled to arrive at some point this year.

If I am correct the Abruzzian chamois are separate from the Pyrenean species and more related to the Alpine ones.

I do seem to remember that 1-2 collections in Italy (including a captive facility for reintroduction) are maintaining stock of the same.

Must check when I get the time ...

I've always seen them listed as a subspecies of R. pyrenaica - including on the labels at Munich - but I'd be quite preared to believe that's out of date.

I've always wondered about this; even if nowhere deliberately decided to get them it's the kind of thing that might turn up as rescue animals.

Just went on to Zootierliste to check and someone's already listed them as having arrived at Blackbrook - are they getting ahead of themselves or do they know something we dont? ;)

Or we have another case of Mercedes been at 2 places at once for months again on zootierlist!

there are no chamois at blackbrook yet, as well as no dwarf mongoose which i think are also listed on zootierliste.....

Have removed the Chamois from zootierlist and put an edit on the Dwarf Mongoose after our chat in the chatroom tonight,thanks for the info!

@Maguari
Abruzzo chamois are now assigned to R. pyrenaica indeed. The IUCN Red List also now recognises as a separate ssp. of pyrenaica (ornata) from the Alpine chamois R. rupicapra. The Hellabrunn Tierpark info is somewhat diffuse as - I do believe - the info boards next to their enclosure list R. pyrenaica ornata, yet the annual report list R. rupicapra ornata .... (I am sure L.Boitani has something to do with the new taxonomic classing).
At the end of the day: no topic for Blackbrook and I have opened one in the Italian forum.

@zoogiraffe
Can we rather than ... not list here those ibis species Blackbrook does not put on show? :) I will check on my side for Avifauna and Vogelpark Walsrode (cheers).
