Some of New Animals and Departing Animal Species/Sbsp in some of NZ zoos and animal parks during 2024
These are some of the new arrival (some returning species and sometimes subspecies) to some of the zoos and wildlife parks in NZ in the year 2024 and also departing species from certain zoos and parks. There will be plenty missing so please contribute if you can. Just a mini summary of last year with departures and new arrivals. Big thanks to all of you, everyone who found out all this news over the year and posted about it throughout last year including alphabetically:

Auckland Zoo
- Yellow-lipped sea krait rescued by the zoo in 2022, is put on public display at the zoo in May 2024.
- 0.1 Burma the Asian Elephant (the last Elephant in New Zealand) left the zoo on 12 November 2024 for new home at Monarto Safari Park in South Australia.
Butterfly Creek
-received Lace Monitors in July 2024.
Hamilton Zoo
- 1.0 Caracal arrived at the zoo in March 2024 (first Caracal in country since 0.2 at Wellington Zoo died in March & April 2022).
- September 2024 received breeding pair of 1.1 Brolgas from Auckland.
-North Island Saddleback arrived in or before November 2024.
Pouakai Zoo
-Lost its last 2 Meerkats in April 2024.
Wellington Zoo
- In July 2024 Wellington Zoo's sole remaining Kiwi 0.1 Rāwhiti was euthanised due to a spreading infection from a small ingested metal fragment (fellow Kiwi 1.0 Tūārangi had been moved to Otorohanga same day for breeding). The zoo will have other Kiwis again soon enough though.
-The zoo received a rescued Adelie penguin in October 2024.
