Zoo Atlanta Chantek orangutan who can sign

Does anyone know if Chantek the male orangutan born in 1977 who can communicate using sign language is still alive? I've bene trying to find info on him but it all seems to be out of date.

Maybe you should post this on the USA forum too in case someone who knows doesn't see this? It would be interesting to know if he's still alive and communicating. I don't know how old those TV programmes about him are.

This article says "His current habitat at Zoo Atlanta" So i asume he still is alive unless it is out of date.

Thanks for the info, I saw that too but as you say, it's out of date so I'm going to contact the Zoo Atlanta and ask there!

Just to say I left a post at Atlanta Zoo where Chantek was last said to be but have had no replies as yet.
