Chattanooga Zoo gets new animals | News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | WTVC
The Chattanooga Zoo has had a whirlwind of animals transferring in and out of our Zoo in the past couple months. As we said goodbye to some, we welcomed even more!

The Chattanooga Zoo's sole Hanuman Langur, Indie, was recently transferred to the Naples Zoo and Caribbean Gardens in Naples, Florida. Before this move, the Chattanooga Zoo was one of only three AZA accredited institutions to house Hanuman Langurs. Through the Species Survival Plan (SSP), the decision was made to move Indie, age 16, to the Naples Zoo to live out her life as a companion to their resident Siamang. This transfer will also allow for the Chattanooga Zoo to grow our Francois Langur collection.

After Indie's move, the Chattanooga Zoo received a nine year old male Francois Langur, Badu. Badu came to us from the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Since his arrival, Badu has been held in quarantine. After his 30 day quarantine and he passed his routine physical, Badu has been getting acclimated to his new exhibit, and will be exhibited full time in the Himalayan Passage. We will begin intros with Badu and our resident Francois Langur, Trieu, soon. We hope to continue to successfully grow one of the few bachelor groups of Francois Langurs in AZA accredited Zoo's.

The Chattanooga Zoo also recently received a male Bali Mynah, Pierre. Pierre was placed as a companion for our resident female Bali Mynah, Penelope. He is four years old and came to us from the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, New Jersey. Pierre and Penelope are a recommended breeding pair through the SSP and we hope for reproduction. Pierre will finish his 30 day quarantine and will be exhibited in the Himalayan Passage indoor exhibit with Penelope. This is the first Bali Mynah breeding pair for the Chattanooga Zoo.

Once again, we are continuing to grow our prairie dog colony, and have recently added nine new residents! The Chattanooga Zoo received three male and six female prairie dogs from Zoo America in Hershey, Pennsylvania. All nine prairie dogs, yet to be named, have successfully finished their quarantine, passed their physicals, and intros have begun.

These animals are highly social animals, and our resident prairie dogsChattanooga, Tennessee- The Chattanooga Zoo has had a whirlwind of animals transferring in and out of our Zoo in the past couple months. As we said goodbye to some, we welcomed even more!

Male Tashi (1) arrived from Tautphaus Zoo in Idaho Falls and is a recommended SSP breeding transfer with resident female Callie. It will take another 2+ years for him to mature and breed with her though.

The zoo also works with the Snow Leopard Trust with programs in Kyrgyztan and Mongolia.
