Due to unstable finances and issues in maintenance, the Zoo was denied AZA accreditation renewal.

Between October 15th, 2018, and December 31st, 2021, there was a hurricane that caused massive damage to the facility, and the original designer of the facility and Wild Kingdom host Jim Fowler passed away in May 2019. Transfers include a (1.0) south-central black rhino named Dubya to Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Kansas in November 2019. In May 2021, new exhibits were built for their ring-tailed lemurs, red-ruffed lemurs, and African spurred tortoise. Here is the news for 2022:

On February 2nd, 2024, the zoo announced that they acquired 2 domestic ferrets.
