Between October 15th, 2018, and December 31st, 2021, there was a hurricane that caused massive damage to the facility, and the original designer of the facility and Wild Kingdom host Jim Fowler passed away in May 2019. Transfers include a (1.0) south-central black rhino named Dubya to Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Kansas in November 2019. In May 2021, new exhibits were built for their ring-tailed lemurs, red-ruffed lemurs, and African spurred tortoise. Here is the news for 2022:

On April 11th, it was reported that the zoo received $2,965 from the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the AZA.

On May 8th, the zoo announced that (0.0.2+?) African straw-colored fruit bats were born.

On June 20th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (0.1) bald eagle from the Avian Reconditioning Center in Florida the week prior. She is located in the bald eagle exhibit across the suspension bridge.

On April 26th, it was reported that the zoo's owners (who also own the Flint RiverQuarium) are seeking $4 million from the town to add new exhibits to the facility.

On August 20th, it was reported that $109 million was given to the town, of which some of it was used to increase the funding for the zoo, among other areas of the town.

On February 20th, it was reported that a (1.0) plains zebra named Trigger is now back on display in the ostrich & emu mixed species exhibit after being off exhibit for several years due to the closure of the African Veldt Safari exhibit. It was also reported that the zoo acquired 2 sandhill cranes which are on exhibit.

On May 17th, the zoo announced they started construction on a new exhibit (though its inhabitants remain unspecified) which will be located in the Zoo Plaza area.

On September 17th, the zoo announced they acquired a (1.0) Dexter cow named Hershey, which is on display in the domestic donkey exhibit.

On February 1st, 2025, it was reported that the zoo's director of 15 years, Morgan Carpenter, resigned to go work in banking.

On April 2nd, it was reported that the zoo received $5,000 from Georgia Department of Natural Resources to create a new exhibit for headstarting gopher frogs.

On August 24th, the zoo announced they acquired a male (1.0) eastern box turtle, later named Crush, which is on display inside the Reptile House.
