Cherry Brook Zoo (Closed) Cherry Brook Zoo

@amur leopard, my guess is other Canadian zoos will see what they can do to fit in the exotics. The big cats will be hardest to place. If not a zoo then a sanctuary. The domestics could go to the public and live out their lives as pets on farms and in homes. They will probably be pretty easy to place.

The placement of animals is always touted as easy, where in fact it is quite hard especially at short notice. If anything, it is a fail by both the provincial as well as the national administration to act on behalf of animal welfare and prevent foreclosures.

This holds true for all Canada's zoos really if nothing is done at the national level.

Like everyone else here, I had never visited this facility so I cannot comment on the quality of it. Though whenever I explored the possibility of doing so, it never jumped out at me.
I do feel for all the visitors who looked forward to going this summer or in future years.

A brief review of this thread suggests, as others already have, that this facility has been facing struggles long before Covid. I do not have the time to do a full review of the public accounts of the provincial government, so I will not risk being ignorant to criticize the provincial government for not bailing out this facility. Since I'm not a constituent they may not even care what I think.
