Chessington Zoo Chessington Zoo News 2017

Thanks to our friends at the Chessington Buzz forum for news that Merlin have recently submitted a planning application for a brand new Tiger enclosure at Chessington. The new exhibit will be based around the existing Dragon Falls ride (to be renamed, Tiger Falls) and will have three separate but interconnecting (via overhead walkways) enclosures. The park will also switch to keeping Amur Tigers for this new development rather than the existing Sumatran's (doesn't say if they will remain in Trail of the Kings or be moved on)

This new development is currently planned to be open in 2018

As mentioned in last years thread there seems to be a masterplan than ultimately uses newly acquired land for animal enclosures and the current Trail of the Kings location disappears.

Interestingly Chessington have never kept Amur tigers before - only Sumatrans and Indian (or zoo- "Bengal"s) before that. Overhead walkways are not always the best option for large cats, they generally don`t like moving overhead, between enclosures, and if people are below, it can be a possible hazard to the public in terms of any potential bodily fluids occurring from the cats ?

Work on the Tiger Falls development will start in the next few weeks, with the construction area being closed off from 12th September

Nice indeed and it's amazing when the Amur Tigers arrived and it means Chessington will be the only place in the UK to house Amur and Sumatran Tigers

Obviously an unofficial video but I did come across this YouTube video which gives the authors view of what is happening
